I read an article on the internet this week that really caused me to pause and reflect on the 13 years that have passed since the Oklahoma City bombing. This month, one of just six small children who survived the blast will graduate from high school. Christopher Nguyen was in a daycare in the buiding when Timothy McVeigh set off a truck bomb just a few floors below, killing 168 people. Christopher was badly burned in the bombing and spent about a month in the hospital. Nguyen is a straight-A student and a young man with a great personality and positive outlook on life. He knows it's a miracle he's alive. He also says he stays in touch with all of the kids who survived the blast--their His story is encouraging. I still carry with me many memories of the Oklahoma City bombing having moved to the city just months after the attack to work at the ABC affiliate. I remember the bombed-out shell of the Murrah Building, the images of bodies being pulled from the rubble, the heartache, the tears, and the trials of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. For me, reading this week about Christopher Nguyen's gradation and his plans to attend University of Oklahoma this fall was a reminder of how we all need to live life in fullness each and everyday. Also, never miss a chance to tell you children how much you love them! |
