I know Dancing With the Stars is a huge hit. Yes like millions of other viewers I am a big fan. So who do I think should win this season ? Well I think Kristi Yamaguchi is the clear winner. But I'm having a difficult time voting for her.
See several years ago she was here in Hampton Roads for a special ice skating show and I got to interview her live for the news. I was very excited. I mean after all she is an Olympic medalist... pretty impressive.
While we were setting up for our live shot my photographer suggested I put a piece of cardboard out on the ice to stand on so I didn't mess up my shoes (which were heels.. not great for ice). I thought it was a great idea until I went to walk on it and it slide right out from under me. And let me tell you falling fast and hard on ice does not feel great. Of course I got up as quickly as possible because out on the ice were all the fabulous skaters practicing for the show.... including Kristi. I didn't want to be more embarrassed than I already was.
We adjusted our live shot location so I didn't have to worry about falling again and a few minutes before we went on Kristi showed up. We were making "small talk" before we went live and I mentioned that I had fallen on the ice earlier. At this point I thought she would say "oh are you okay?" but instead she laughed and said " I know I saw you." Really not what I expected.
Now in her defense everyone I've told the story to says they probably would have said and done the same thing. I guess I was just surprised and still stinging from my fall. But really years later I'm getting over it (honest). In fact I'm voting for her to win Dancing with the Stars... and hoping she doesn't fall.
