April 2008 ArchivesThat's what everyone is saying about the fact that no one was killed in the tornadoes that cut a swath of destruction through Suffolk on Monday. To look at the damage left behind that's difficult to believe. What's not difficult to believe is the Spirit of Hampton Roads that is shining through all this destruction. While hundreds of people have lost their homes and many of the possession they use to hold dearly. There are hundreds more... You've likely heard those words from excited storm chasers when the news, as it tends to do, broadcasts video of tornadoes touching down. When I lived in Oklahoma City several years ago, I remember on many evenings grabbing my family and our dog and jumping into the bath tub, or a hall closet, when it flashed on the t-v screen that a tornado was on the ground. You just have to stay focused and not be side tracked by items that you don't need, but look good. This philosophy works best when you shop on a full stomach. Like David Alan my family and I have been trying to find ways to cut back and save. Because it doesn't look like many of the things we need and use on a regular basis are going to go back down in price anytime soon. |
