This West Virginia girl is happy to see a little snow sticking to the ground in her hometown of the last five years -- Virginia Beach!
It's one of those things Hampton Roads, more specifically, Virginia Beach is sort-of known for... wearing flip-flops year-round. Yeah, I know -- we see all four seasons here albeit fairly mild seasons, but what I've noticed since moving here is our pride (no matter where we're originally from) in wearing flip-flops year-round.
Well, if there was ever a day NOT to sport the toe-dividing casual shoes, it was today. With a forecast for snow that started as rain -- Saturday, January 19th -- was a day these 'goto shoes' just wouldn't fly. I'm sure there are those who stubbornly slid them on before running out for errands or maybe to check the mail, but boy were they in for a cold, wet surprise. I threw on my tennis shoes before heading out for a quick drive-through lunch and I was glad I did! I was jumping puddles to get to my car and I have a feeling that after work tonight, I'll be taking 'baby steps' to get to my car -- in an effort to avoid cracking by bum on the ice. Today was not a day for flip-flops -- but as always, mine are stand-by:)
Hi Vanessa,
I am originally from Wisconsin. Need I say more. :)
I can recall routinely wear shorts with sandals while running an errand to the corner store in near zero degree weather.
Also, snowstorms were a great time to do some serious jogging.
People there do like to live on the edge.
Forgot to mention I was 17 years old then, and there is no way I would in a dream even do that now :)
I don't miss the weather back home
