Let the games begin with a Fist Pump

7:51 PM Tue, Jan 22, 2008 |

No explanation needed. You know what happend on the course when Tiger Woods offers a powerful fist pump and a roar on the putting green. That's exactly what I give Tiger in his response to the unfortunate comment made by Golf Channel Anchor Kelly Tilghman.

A few weeks ago during a live broadcast on the Golf Channel, Tilghman while co-anchoring with pro golfer Nick Faldo made what could have been a career ending comment. She offered what was supposed to have been a humorous assessment on how difficult it will be for young golfers to catch up with Tiger from a competive standpoint. Faldo remarked something along the lines of maybe they should gang up on him. Tilghman, with a slight smile then suggested maybe the young players should take Tiger to a back alley and LYNCH him. She apologized to Tiger and the audience while the Golf Channel suspended her for two weeks. This week Tiger was widely quoted as saying said Tilghman meant no harm, and that the matter is closed as far as he is concerned.
To Tilghman, we've witnessed a tough lesson on why it's important for anchors to never get too comfortable on camera.
To Tiger I offer a powerful fist pump for taking the high road in what has been an unfortunate situation.
Now let's play golf. Tiger makes his 2008 debut on Thursday.
