Busy lives mean a longer holiday season...

6:03 PM Tue, Jan 08, 2008 |

Okay I admit it we were one of the first families on our block to put up our Christmas decorations. Yep, the day after Thanksgiving the pre-light tree went up. The outside lights soon followed and I even got a big chunk of our cards out before Christmas. But somewhere along the way I lost track of time and before I knew it Christmas had come and gone and I still had a lot of presents left to distribute.

We took down our tree last weekend and now those presents are just sitting there in the corner of the room looking oh so enticing to my newly crawling son.
But to me those presents are a reminder that life has gotten too busy. Because the presents are for friends who've been an important part of my life for more than 20 years. So how could I not hook up with them and exchange gifts in more than a month? It's not like I didn't see them. It's just that when I did it wasn't the right time to do our gift exchange. See we like to do a big lunch and all of us get together, visit and exchange gifts. It's the only time of the year we can really all get together just us... a girls day. This year we've all gotten busy. One of us has a catering company that's doing great... another is a great teacher. So that means she always busy helping her students and preparing for the next sol lesson. Of course I had my son and since then seem to have lost hours out of my day.. the other friend well she's getting ready to have her own baby boy.... She's due any day and has been on bed rest for like six weeks. So she's pretty much decided she's out for the "girls lunch/gift exchange" this year.
Now we just have to figure how three of us can fit it into our lives. Right now it looks like Sunday could be the day. But I wouldn't bet on it... it seems babysitting issues are already starting to arise. So we'll see maybe we should make our "girls lunch/gift exchange" a Valentines event.. after all February is a lot less busy than December.
