The Latest Hall of Famer

7:16 PM Tue, Nov 13, 2007 |

Let's give Curtis Strange a big shout out for his induction last night into the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida.

During the 1980's, when my love of game was born, Strange was one of the most dominant players out there.

Curtis won 16 PGA tournaments in the '80's, including back-to-back wins in the US Open in 1988 and 1989.

Back-to-back wins in golf's major tournaments were rare then and still are--even in the days of Tiger Woods.

Strange was born in Norfolk and went to Princess Anne High School. He played his college golf at Wake Forest where he helped the school win the NCAA championship in 1974.

Articles on Stranges' induction onto the hall Monday suggest it was an emotional night. Curtis thanked his family and friends, his coaches, his community and talked of his love for the game.

In recent years, Curtis left the ABC broadcast tower and went from talking about the game back to playing it on the senior tour.

We've not seen the same Curtis Strange out there on the senior circut. Time takes its toll on all of us.

But in his time, Curtis Strange was special. He was intense, quiet and very talented.

He gave the game a lot and now he's landed where he belongs--in the hall!
