Most of us remember Blair Underwood when he first flashed that megawatt smile on LA LAW as attorney, Jonathan Rollins, in 1987. Since then, he's had a great career as an actor, director and now author. We had a chance to interview Mr. Underwood on 13News Daybreak recently.
What I didn't know, is he went to high school in Petersburg and in the 80's worked at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for two summers, acting and singing in shows. What's more is his in-laws live in Newport News. He comes to town every Christmas. Maybe we'll see him at Patrick Henry Mall spending some of that "Dirty, Sexy, Money" he's making on the new ABC show "Dirty, Sexy, Money." It airs Wednesday's at 10pm. Underwood plays Simon Elder, the third richest man in the world, who was raised in a Russian orphanage. The show centers around the rich Darling family in New York City. This role is one of many Underwood has played on both the big and small screen. After his stint at Busch Gardens, he got guest starring roles on the "Cosby Show" and "One Life to Live." His movie debut was in 1985 in "Krush Groove." I found Underwood to be very personable--certainly, very polished when it comes to interviews. He tells me he's very proud of his work as a young up and coming actor at Busch Gardens and he's proud that he's now an author. His book is in stores now entitled, Casanegra: A Tennyson Hardwick Story. It's a murder mystery set in Hollywood. What gives Underwood his staying power, is that he's not afraid to try something new. We know he acts, but he produces and directs, as well. His biggest and most important role, being a daddy to three kids with wife, Desiree DaCosta.
He tells me, "Don't act like you don't me, when I come in town for Christmas." Maybe we can get to him to come by the studio.
