Mack Benn Kids

9:54 AM Fri, Nov 30, 2007 |

One of the fun things about my job is getting invited to speak to kids around Hampton Roads. I did just that yesterday at Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary in Suffolk. It was a lot of fun.

Getting in the Holiday Spirit

8:20 PM Thu, Nov 29, 2007 |

Okay anyone who knows me knows that shopping is in my blood. I consider it a skill. One which I have fine tuned over the years. And just like football players have the Super Bowl... real shoppers, like myself, have the equivilent in Black Friday.

Crowded Presidential Field Got You Confused?

7:05 PM Mon, Nov 26, 2007 |

They go to the polls and vote without knowing where their candidates really stand on a vast majority of the key issues.

A new reason to give thanks....

9:31 PM Wed, Nov 21, 2007 |

This year as you know has been a pretty life changing one for me. Believe it or not it has been six months since I gave birth to my son and I haven't had a full night sleep since then. But i'm certainly not complaining. In fact sometimes I'm amazed at how much I am able to get done on such a small amount of sleep, who knew.

Missing Marcelia

9:20 AM Wed, Nov 21, 2007 |

I'll never forget. It was Christmas 2005 and my stepmom, Marcelia was running around the house making last minute touches to what made Christmas so merry in the Roach household---the prettiest tree I had ever seen, stockings for the grandkids hanging over the fireplace and the aroma of food so good it would make you stand up and testify.

Most of us remember Blair Underwood when he first flashed that megawatt smile on LA LAW as attorney, Jonathan Rollins, in 1987. Since then, he's had a great career as an actor, director and now author. We had a chance to interview Mr. Underwood on 13News Daybreak recently.

Wipers on, Lights on!

8:33 PM Thu, Nov 15, 2007 |

Today was one of those rare cloudy and rainy days in Hampton Roads. You know the kind of day where you're running late for everything because you are driving a little slower just to be safe. Well it occured to me while heading into Norfolk on 264 that not everyone is concerned about safety on a rainy day.

Is it Good Enough?

6:52 PM Thu, Nov 15, 2007 |

Just in time for the holidays, a disturbing story out of Washington, DC today about air travel.

According to a government report, investigators with bomb-making components on them, and in their bags, got past security checkpoints at a number of U.S. airpoirts.

Remembering our Veterans

8:30 PM Wed, Nov 14, 2007 |

On Sunday, Veterans Day, I visited the VA Hospital in Hampton. I've lived here all my life and passed by it many times but I have to admit it was my first visit. My father went there for appointments but I never knew anyone who stayed there so I never thought of visiting.

6:43 PM Sun, Nov 11, 2007 |

My photographer and I spent an exhausting but amazing 32 hours on the USS Harry S. Truman as it got underway for six months last week. It was a first "deployment" of sorts for both of us and while it was a lot of hardwork, it was worth every bump and bruise!

That's fairly unusual.

The Importance of Voting....

7:55 PM Tue, Nov 06, 2007 |

Rainy election days typically mean low voter turnout. That said, I have to admit because of the rain I did contemplate just taking my son to school without swinging by my voting precinct. But by doing that I would not be teaching him how important it is to vote.

Because I'm a Mom

7:25 AM Tue, Nov 06, 2007 |

What parent hasn't paid attention to all of the toy and product recalls? I certainly have. I have a four year old little girl and a one year old boy. My little boy has a favorite sport and I call it "How many things can he get in his mouth?" (only one player needed and anything that isn't bolted down).

Trick or Treating again....

9:44 PM Thu, Nov 01, 2007 |

After twelve years of trick or treating I thought my years of going door to door were over. But this Halloween, and many years later, I got to do it all again only this time as a carrier. Since my son isn't old enough to know how to walk I had to carry him door to door.
