November 2007 ArchivesOne of the fun things about my job is getting invited to speak to kids around Hampton Roads. I did just that yesterday at Mack Benn, Jr. Elementary in Suffolk. It was a lot of fun. ...Okay anyone who knows me knows that shopping is in my blood. I consider it a skill. One which I have fine tuned over the years. And just like football players have the Super Bowl... real shoppers, like myself, have the equivilent in Black Friday. ...Have you seen some of the questions posted for the CNN/YOUTUBE debate? Of course many of them are dignified, intelligent, tough, and important, but others are truly ridiculous. ...I know many people who seemingly throw away their vote on election day. They go to the polls and vote without knowing where their candidates really stand on a vast majority of the key issues. ...During the holidays I always overeat. It's a holiday tradition in my family for us to pull out the Christmas decorations on Thankgiving weekend. This year was no exception. Why not? It seems everyone rushes Christmas. ...These things are short, sweet and to the point. Wish me luck :) ... This year as you know has been a pretty life changing one for me. Believe it or not it has been six months since I gave birth to my son and I haven't had a full night sleep since then. But i'm certainly not complaining. In fact sometimes I'm amazed at how much I am able to get done on such a small amount of sleep, who knew. I'll never forget. It was Christmas 2005 and my stepmom, Marcelia was running around the house making last minute touches to what made Christmas so merry in the Roach household---the prettiest tree I had ever seen, stockings for the grandkids hanging over the fireplace and the aroma of food so good it would make you stand up and testify. ...Most of us remember Blair Underwood when he first flashed that megawatt smile on LA LAW as attorney, Jonathan Rollins, in 1987. Since then, he's had a great career as an actor, director and now author. We had a chance to interview Mr. Underwood on 13News Daybreak recently. ...Much like the military, when you work in the news biz... holidays are often altered or altogether missed... ...Every year, I take a few hours to transfer information from my old wall calendar to my new one.. maybe I should get a PDA.. nah!!! ...Today was one of those rare cloudy and rainy days in Hampton Roads. You know the kind of day where you're running late for everything because you are driving a little slower just to be safe. Well it occured to me while heading into Norfolk on 264 that not everyone is concerned about safety on a rainy day. ...Just in time for the holidays, a disturbing story out of Washington, DC today about air travel.
On Sunday, Veterans Day, I visited the VA Hospital in Hampton. I've lived here all my life and passed by it many times but I have to admit it was my first visit. My father went there for appointments but I never knew anyone who stayed there so I never thought of visiting. ... WHAT IS YOUR PHOBIA? MANY PEOPLE HAVE AT LEAST ONE. I am thrilled to share with you the fact that I addressed a long-standing fear this summer and learned how to swim. ...Let's give Curtis Strange a big shout out for his induction last night into the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida. ...thank God they're there for us ...My photographer and I spent an exhausting but amazing 32 hours on the USS Harry S. Truman as it got underway for six months last week. It was a first "deployment" of sorts for both of us and while it was a lot of hardwork, it was worth every bump and bruise! ...you'll see one of the best experiences of my career on 13news daybreak tomorrow ...still has that patritoic spirit ...it's often said that it's human nature for us to take things for granted. ...It's almost the weekend and we've not had a single presidential primary debate yet this week. That's fairly unusual. ...Rainy election days typically mean low voter turnout. That said, I have to admit because of the rain I did contemplate just taking my son to school without swinging by my voting precinct. But by doing that I would not be teaching him how important it is to vote. ...What parent hasn't paid attention to all of the toy and product recalls? I certainly have. I have a four year old little girl and a one year old boy. My little boy has a favorite sport and I call it "How many things can he get in his mouth?" (only one player needed and anything that isn't bolted down). ...It's nice to know there are so many animal lovers out there! ...When you grow up, sometimes you forget the simple things that made you so happy as a child. ...Do you know how high pet surgery costs are getting these days? ...just to give you some insight into our industry - television broadcasting. for many, it could be an occupation of hellos and goodbyes - you get a great opportunity to move to an area - do your job - and wait until the next great opportunity comes along. ...Diamonds. Whether they are real, simulated, cultured, colored or look-a-like -- boy are they nice to wear! ...Daylight Saving Time starts this weekend. Don't just turn the clock back an hour and head off to bed, remember to be careful out there! ...Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't we just celebrate Halloween a few days ago? Well imagine my surprise when I went in to take advantage of the day after Halloween sales and just one aisle over were Christmas decorations. ...After twelve years of trick or treating I thought my years of going door to door were over. But this Halloween, and many years later, I got to do it all again only this time as a carrier. Since my son isn't old enough to know how to walk I had to carry him door to door. ... |
