As a baby boomer, I think I'm dealing fairly well with the realities of slipping further into my 50's. But nothing hit me more like a cold glass of water in the face than an article I recently ran across on the internet about college freshman today. Wow, this hurts!
The piece listed several things freshmen don't remember, or perhaps barely remember. To me, the list sounded like things that happened just yesterday. Keep in mind, most college freshman today were born in 1989. They don't remember the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. That was 1986. They also don't remember Ronald Reagan, or the Cold War. They don't remember getting tangled up in the long kitchen phone cord, or setting the record timer on the VCR. It gets worse. They likely don't remember a floppy disk, Windows 95, or the Ninentendo Entertainment System. College freshman today also barely remember the Oklahoma City Bombing, or the O.J. Simpson trial. Anyone seen my 8 track of the Righteous Brothers?
