OK, homecoming weekend didn't go exactly as planned for Norfolk State University. The Spartans, in the midst of a strong season, got tripped up by visiting Howard NSU (6-2) lost their led in the MEAC, but they still can make the Division I-AA playoffs if they win their next two games. Bottom line; it's been a great season for the team and for the school. In my opinion, both deserve more credit. I can remember just a few years ago hearing a lot of grumbling at Dick Price Stadium about whether the plug should be pulled on the football program. Coach Pete Adrian and his staff, and team have answered that. A school's success should not measured by the wins and losses of its sports teams. Clearly Norfolk State has a lot more going for it than that. But it's nice to see large crowds at the games, alumni traveling great distances to come back to campus, and all of the positive talk around town about the school. Enthusiasm never hurts. Go Spartans! |
