Day 20: Last Day of Boot Camp!

11:34 AM Fri, Aug 29, 2008 |

We made it! Today was the last time I'll hear my air raid alarm clock go off at 4:30am! Well, at least for the next two weeks.

Day 19: Judgment Day

12:32 PM Thu, Aug 28, 2008 |

Today was the day. The day I was to hop on the scale, get pinched and measured, all to see just how my body has changed over the course of the past four weeks of Mohr Results Boot Camp.

Day 18: Junkyard Day!

11:26 AM Wed, Aug 27, 2008 |

Okay, so Coach Chris Mohr says that I can't say that EVERY single day is the hardest day. So I won't say that today is the hardest... but it is definitely tied for first place! Today my friend Jessie and I pushed a car across a parking lot! Twice! And that would be in addition to the 17 or so times we ran the obstacle course.

Day 17: Boot Camp on Bourbon

10:54 AM Tue, Aug 26, 2008 |

So today was day two of feeling not so good in the morning. Umm... this time it was kind of my fault. See, there was this bourbon tasting dinner last night... Such a bad idea. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was absolutely delicious, and I learned a lot about bourbon, but I wasn't feeling so good this morning.

Day 16: Muscle Mayhem

10:54 AM Mon, Aug 25, 2008 |

Wow. Today was a a little rough. I know I say this every day, but today was the hardest boot camp ever. I think I produced enough sweat to fill a small swimming pool. Okay, it probably didn't help that my body was already a little tired from kayaking on the Ohio for 2 hours yesterday.

Day 15: Back to School

11:43 AM Fri, Aug 22, 2008 |

Wow, I really don't remember grade school being this hard. Today we did adult sized versions of a lot of childhood games that actually, I never played.

Day 14: Wishful Thinking

10:50 AM Thu, Aug 21, 2008 |

Maybe they'll forget. That's what I kept thinking (wishing) as I got ready for boot camp this morning. See, the rules are, if you miss the Monday weigh in, they weigh you on your first day back to camp. Even if the first day back to camp is the day after a vacation where perhaps you indulged in, oh say, some steak. And margaritas.

Day 13: Mind Over Matter

12:38 PM Wed, Aug 20, 2008 |

This is definitely the most trying day so far. I took the red eye back from San Diego last night, landing in Louisville this morning at 9am. I headed straight to work, where I now sit, head beginning to droop.

Day 12: Does Shopping Count as Cardio?

5:52 PM Tue, Aug 19, 2008 |

When I started to write my blog earlier today, I was actually going to pose that question. Now, it is a slightly legitimate question, because let me tell you, I was shopping at a 4 story outdoor mall today, and used only stairs to get around! No escalators! Okay, one escalator, but it was at the very end, and I was desperately fleeing the smells of the food court.

Day 11: Temptation at the Beach

8:45 PM Mon, Aug 18, 2008 |

Well, it's Day 11, but unfortunately I'm not there to sweat it out with my fellow boot campers. Don't feel sorry for me - I'm kicking it in sunny San Diego - and it's every bit as gorgeous as I imagined. The weather is a perfect 76 degrees every day, and I haven't seen so much as a cloud in the sky.

Day 10: All My Bags are Packed...

10:38 AM Fri, Aug 15, 2008 |

Leaving on a Jet Plane has been stuck in my head all morning. So far it's just a pleasant reminder that I'm shortly going to be hopping on a plane and heading off to sunny San Diego! Not that I'm trying to rub it in. I'm actually sad that I'm going to have to miss three days of boot camp next week.

Day 9: Finishing the Race

10:42 AM Thu, Aug 14, 2008 |

Ouch. My legs are launching a protest against my treatment of them this morning. You see, today was the Amazing Race, and I was bound and determined to finish.

Day 8: The Cranky Camper

11:13 AM Wed, Aug 13, 2008 |

I woke up today the mental equivalent of a cranky 2 year old. I didn't want to get out of bed, didn't feel like eating my breakfast, my Diet Coke didn't taste right... If you'd handed me a million dollars, I probably would have complained about the taxes. I met my friend Jessie down at boot camp, and she was a having a similarly bad morning, after getting little sleep last night. As we did our warm-up laps around the parking lot, we grouse...

Day 7: Vegetable Confessions

10:16 AM Tue, Aug 12, 2008 |

I have a confession to make. I don't like vegetables. I know, a grown woman shouldn't admit that, but it's true. I just don't enjoy very many of them. I am making an effort though. I signed up with my friends for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share this year. Every Friday we get a box full of fresh local produce, which we divide up. So through that, I've discovered that I like summer squash. And... lettuce.

Day 6: Week Two!

1:12 PM Mon, Aug 11, 2008 |

This morning, I woke up feeling extremely nervous. Today was judgment day. Okay, it was really just the weigh in after week one. After cheeseburger-gate last week though, I was completely stressed out. I had to force myself to eat breakfast. I have a lot of rules about getting on the scale, and not having consumed any food for the eight hours prior to the weighing is definitely the most important! I forced myself to eat my usual breakfas...

Day Five: Navigating the Minefields

10:40 AM Fri, Aug 08, 2008 |

I have never been so proud. This morning at boot camp, I ran a mile in 9 minutes and 21 seconds. That is a huge improvement over my previous times! I'm usually an 11 or 12 minute mile kind of girl, and the best I'd ever done was about 10:30. This has opened up a world of possibilities in my mind! I had no idea that I was even capable of running a mile in under 10 minutes. If I can pull 9:21 at the end of the first week, imagine what I'll...

Day Four: Bring on the Rain

11:43 AM Thu, Aug 07, 2008 |

Today is a beautiful day. The sky is blue, birds are singing, and it's all because I went to bed last night at the unimaginable hour of 8pm. Okay, that's when I got in to bed. I didn't actually fall asleep until about 9pm, since the sun was still shining brightly, and my mom wanted to talk about what shoes she should take on her cruise. Promptly at 9pm though, I fell fast asleep, where I remained until the alarm went off this morning. I c...

Day Three: My Ode to Diet Coke

8:56 AM Wed, Aug 06, 2008 |

Tired. Very, very tired. This is now day three of less than 5 hours of sleep, and my body has officially had enough. It feels like an effort just to type these words. So, I call upon my magic elixir, Diet Coke. Oh, Diet Coke, how I love thee. I do feel a bit guilty about my little habit today though. I'm betting that the rule on ingredients (if you can't pronounce it, don't eat it) probably applies to beverages too. So if I learn to pr...

Day Two: The Reckoning

11:17 AM Tue, Aug 05, 2008 |

Well, today things were taken up a notch. Just in case working out at 5:30 in the morning 5 days a week wasn't enough, I'm now escalating to the Mohr Results Platinum Boot Camp program. What does this mean? Basically that I'll be filling out food diaries, turning them in weekly, and horror of horrors, having weekly weigh-ins!! Which, by the way, began today.

Day One

2:44 PM Mon, Aug 04, 2008 |

The scale is not my friend. My jeans are not my friend. So, I'm making boot camp my friend. I'm not sure who talked who in to this, but my friend Renee Murphy and I have committed to doing a boot camp style workout 5 days a week, at 5:30am. Yes, that's 5:30 in the morning. Every day.
