All is Well (and Food Log for 10/31)

7:43 PM Fri, Oct 31, 2008 |

Okay guys, just checking in to let everyone know that all is well. Dad come through the surgery with flying colors, and is already moving out of ICU. He's typical Dad; his first words after surgery were spent asking my Mom and I if we'd had anything to eat, and telling us that we should get some rest. This coming from the man who just had a 5 ½ hour surgery.

Dinner

11:25 PM Thu, Oct 30, 2008 |

I missed dinner this evening. It was not intentional. I just got busy and before I knew it the clock said 9pm. I decided I would miss the meal. Not the best of decisions, but sometimes things happen. And I was doing so good this week.

There is a silver lining. I did run today. Now that I have found my motivation, I have a little more pep in my step. Mostly though I am excited about getting back to Boot Camp. My days feel a lit...

Tricks to Avoid Halloween Treats - Part 2

5:25 PM Thu, Oct 30, 2008 |

Yesterday I discussed ways to handle the Halloween candy shopping experience. Today in the grocery store I ran into one of our Boot Campers who told me she only expected about 3 trick or treaters. The couple of bags of candy in her hand indicated to me she was in trouble, but she replied " I don't keep it. I pass it all off on the 3 kids who live next door!" Smart thinking. Here are some ot...

The Mile

10:39 PM Wed, Oct 29, 2008 |

Believe it or not, in college I ran track. It still surprises me to this day. I wish I could do half the things that once came so easily to me. My spikes are safely tucked away at my parent's house. I haven't thought about high jump or triple jump in about a million years. My track days were long before the torn ACL and my aged legs.

I say all this to tell you a little bit of inspiration I found this evening to keep working out e...

The 25-Hour Day

6:16 PM Wed, Oct 29, 2008 |

It's day two of skipping boot camp, and it's totally bumming me out. Skipping was definitely the right decision though, even though I'm sad not to see everyone, and get the great workout. I had to look objectively at how many hours there were in the day, and realize that unfortunately working out was going to have to go this week. Ordinarily, there would be other things I could cut, but right now I'm at the hospital until it's time to go to...

Tricks to Avoid Halloween Treats

5:37 PM Wed, Oct 29, 2008 |

The holiday season is officially upon us and unfortunately it starts off with one that is centered on candy! While many candies are fat-free, no candy is calorie-free and unfortunately, like most sweets it can have a ghoulish impact on your body weight if not managed appropriately.

In part one of a 3 part Blog - I'll help you navigate the Halloween Holiday. For now, what to do when you are shopping for candy. Coming up tomorrow, ho...

Candy Be Gone

7:19 AM Wed, Oct 29, 2008 |

Cutting out the candy has not been as difficult as I thought it was going to be. Getting up to work out on my own has been more of a challenge. Since I have to miss this week of Mohr Results Adventure Boot Camp for Women I don't have that little push from the other gals to work hard. I will have to dig a little deeper to find my self-motivation. Maybe Coaches Christopher and Kara Mohr can pass along some tips to keep the workouts on track...

Okay, as previously noted, today was a rough one. But here's the unvarnished accounting.

Scary Stuff

4:58 PM Tue, Oct 28, 2008 |

I'm having some trouble writing the blog today. See, my Dad was admitted to the hospital last night, and is going to have to have bypass surgery. He's actually doing great, didn't have a heart attack or anything, and is going to be fine. But still.

Close Call

10:23 PM Mon, Oct 27, 2008 |

Let me start by saying I will not be at Mohr Results Adventure Boot Camp for Women for the rest of the week. My brother-in-law usually watches the baby while I go to camp and wile my husband is at work. He is out of town until Saturday so I am left to my own devices when it comes to working out. It won't be Boot Camp but I will do the best I can. Things are off to a good start so far this week.

I survived day one of my new eating r...

Food Log 10/27

All right, here it is! My accounting for everything I've eaten today. I think I did pretty good, but I'll let our Coaches be the judge!

Back to Boot Camp!

2:34 PM Mon, Oct 27, 2008 |

Here we go again! It's my third trip to boot camp, and this time, I mean business! Not to say that I haven't been taking it seriously before. Anything that requires me to set the alarm to go off before 5am is obviously something that I'm incredibly serious about. However, the one thing that I hadn't been giving 100% to was nutrition. And that is definitely going to change this time around.

Food Fit

9:32 AM Mon, Oct 27, 2008 |

For this third and final installment of the Boot Camp Blog we are focusing on food. You've heard about the workouts, you've heard about the inspirational stories of the women who've survived the camps and you've heard about the transformation that can happen with a little hard work. Now it's time to focus on the other component of total health and wellness. Food!

I love to eat. I love candy, orange slices in particular, and fried ...

1. Get more sleep.

The Truth About Food Labeling

3:11 PM Tue, Oct 21, 2008 |

Let's face it, food labels are used to sell a product.

NOW trans fat free

Sugar free

Low calorie

Low cholesterol

But what do all these mean?

Food labels can do wonders for selling a food, but when it comes down to it, if a package is required to promote all the "health" benefits, do we really want it?

Exhibit A:

1 serving of Cheese Puffs provides 8 grams of...

8:30

11:39 AM Fri, Oct 10, 2008 |

I did it! I did it! I did it!

It was a challenge. My legs are still sore and I was panting through the entire run. But I ran the mile in 8 minutes and 30 seconds this morning at boot camp. Destiny, another camper, ran the mile in 8 minutes and 35 seconds. We were pumped about the run. We reached our goal! We did it!

This morning was the last day of this 4 week session of boot camp. It's a big commitment. And it feel...

OMG! Junk in the Trunk

9:34 AM Thu, Oct 09, 2008 |

I have so much to blog about today I don't know where to begin. I will start with what I think is the most exciting news. Before I write this, let me first say to Coach Kara - I know, I know, weight is only a number. This morning I had my assessment for the second Mohr Results Boot Camp to see where I stand with body fat and stuff like that. You are weighed in during t...

The Kid Part 2

8:54 AM Wed, Oct 08, 2008 |

Fit TV has nothing on Mohr Results Adventure Boot Camp for Women. Gilad with Bodies in Motion is a good substitute in a pinch but I will have to go back to camp to get a real workout. Complete with pumpkins and who knows what else.

We had child care issues again this morning and I was not able to make it to camp today. Good news is that my brother-in-law is back this afternoon so he can watch the little one tomorrow morning. Did I ...

The Kid

10:41 PM Mon, Oct 06, 2008 |

A child really does change everything. You never really know how much until you are faced with a conflict.

As I have written in prior blogs, my brother-in-law lives with us and watches the baby while I go to Mohr Results Adventure Boot Camp for Women. The camp starts at 5:30 in the morning. My husband works overnights and doesn't get home until 8 a.m. My brother-in-law is out of town until Wednesday. It wasn't until about an hou...

It's Boot Camp Pumpkin!

11:06 AM Mon, Oct 06, 2008 |

I stayed up way too late last night and slept way too little over the weekend. I tried to go to sleep but I couldn't put down this darn book (I'm reading the Twilight series and it's so good). The combination makes for a tricky start to the work week, especially when you add a 5:30 a.m. Mohr Results Boot Camp into the equation. Feeling slightly groggy and a little off b...

Wise Words

6:08 PM Fri, Oct 03, 2008 |

It's amazing the difference a few words can make. When I was in college a famous author came and spoke at our school. She said that someone once told her in passing that she should be a writer. That person never thought twice about their words, but they stuck with the author. She said she never thought about writing full time or making a living at it. But from that point on she always heard that passerby's words in her head. It ultimatel...

Turkish Getup

10:33 AM Thu, Oct 02, 2008 |

The Turkish Getup. Have you heard of it? It's painful and difficult. I don't know who came up with it or why. I want to love it but I am finding it difficult to think positive thoughts about an exercise that makes me feel like a 13 year old trying to play on the varsity football team. In other words, it kicks my rear. Are the Turkish offended by this maneuver? This is what a Turkish Getup looks like. Go to these YouTube links (www.you...

An AMAZING Day!

9:02 AM Wed, Oct 01, 2008 |

Today is the best day EVER. I was a little apprehensive about boot camp today, because I knew that not only were we doing the Amazing Race (which is a super hard workout), but I also had to get my measurements taken since I'm only doing a half camp due to vacation schedule. And on top of that, at the end of the workout, I needed to stay late and do the mile and push-up test, to see how much I'd improved since the beginning of camp.

...

Amazing Women

7:52 AM Wed, Oct 01, 2008 |

Coach Kara likes to say people are amazing and amazingly fast. I would like to think we were all amazingly fast today at Mohr Results Adventure Boot Camp for Women. The challenge of the day was called The Amazing Race. I am a competitive person and was hoping I could win this race. I didn't win but came close to finishing. That is something to be happy about.

We had roughly 45 minutes to get through every exercise - twice! We had ...
