Today is a beautiful day. The sky is blue, birds are singing, and it's all because I went to bed last night at the unimaginable hour of 8pm. Okay, that's when I got in to bed. I didn't actually fall asleep until about 9pm, since the sun was still shining brightly, and my mom wanted to talk about what shoes she should take on her cruise. Promptly at 9pm though, I fell fast asleep, where I remained until the alarm went off this morning. I could tell that I was refreshed, because I was actually able to figure out how to turn the alarm off on my new iPhone in record time. Let me just say, it's a good thing that I started out the day refreshed. Today the focus was on cardio and agility drills. Basically, we ran down and up part of a hill, then did an obstacle course where we ran over little hurdles, a ladder, some hoops, and around some cones. About a thousand times. Oh, and there were some jumping jacks thrown in there for good measure. The last couple of laps were extremely challenging - I was really tempted to walk a few times. I pushed through though, and I'm sure my legs (and lungs) will thank me later. After cardio, we moved on to arms. About a quarter of the way through, I felt droplets hitting my shoulders. At first I thought it was sweat, because lets face it, I sweat buckets during these workouts. But no, it was rain. Sweet, blessed rain. It drenched me, my backpack, my yoga mat, but I didn't care. It felt great! Until I realized that my weights had suddenly become much more difficult to hold on to, making me worry about losing my grip and hurtling one at the person behind me. Luckily, I've got a pretty good grip. Hopefully by now my yoga mat has dried out. It's currently draped across the bathroom, making the morning routine somewhat difficult in my tiny Highlands bathroom. Long after it dries though, I have a feeling that I'm going to remember this incredibly empowering morning, sweating it out in the rain with my fellow boot campers. |
