Unions Prepare to Attack Lunsford
May 03, 2007
Look out Bruce, you're about to be attacked!
A coalition of labor unions has set up a 527 committee to launch attack ads against Bruce Lunsford in the 2007 governor's race.
The Working Families for Kentucky committee was incorporated April 23rd with Larry Fox of the U.C.F.W. listed as president. David Swift of the Teamsters Local 89 and Steve Earle of the U.M.W. are among those listed as directors.
According to Earle, the purpose of the indenpendent committee is "to continue to educate our members about the sins of Bruce Lunsford". Earle says the U.M.W has pitched in $5000 to the effort and he expects other unions and some individuals to follow suit.
Earle says the coalition "is gonna have the money to do what they need to do." 527s are allowed to raise unlimited funds. This is the first such committee to signal its intent to get involved in this year's race for governor.
Lunsford's campaign spokesman, Adam Bozzi, says the Lunsford-Stumbo ticket has strong labor support and he hopes grass roots union members will denounce any personal attacks that are launched against Lunsford by the new 527 committee.
Bozzi also called on the Working Families for Kentucky committee to release the names of its donors so Kentuckians know who is financing the group's TV ads.
Many of the union leaders are upset with Lunsford for his past support of republican candidates including Mitch McConnell, Anne Northup, Larry Forgy and Ernie Fletcher.
It didn't help that Lunsford's running mate, attorney general Stumbo, allegedly threatened two labor leaders during the 2007 legislative session.
The most recent WHAS 11/Survey USA poll shows Lunsford/Stumbo leading the crowded democratic party field leading up the May 22 primary election.

If Democrats don't mind voting for Lunsford, a candidate who donated $50,000 to the Fletcher campaign and supports Republicans, then by all means, vote for this guy!
If you don't believe me, go to YouTube and search on "Lunsford Fletcher". It's right there in video. Fletcher thanks his "good friend Bruce Lunsford", and Bruce was happy to donate and attend the event with Fletcher.

This country would be a terrible place to work without organized labor. If the unions won't support Lunsford, that should tell you something!

Unions care about themselves and not about Kentucky.
Unions don't care about health care, education, and new jobs. They only care about getting even. There is no future in the past.
Lunsford and Stumbo have more business knowledge than the rest of the field put together.
Union members should fire their leaders for not looking out for their best interest. This is personal and not in the best interest of working people.
Gregg Stumbo when to bat for state employees and won. If it wasn't for his effort no telling how many state employees would be fired my now.
This action by unions against Lunsford is personal, Personal, personal.

Hate to burst your bubble, Ed, but that's not why they're doing this. It's because the most crooked ticket the democratic party's ever seen is leading with 3 weeks to go and the other challengers can't attack. Funny how Jerry Lundergan managed to fanagle all the democratic candidates into signing a "no attack" pledge when his hand-picked candidate is the one that needs to be attacked the most. People aren't learning any of the negative things about the Lunsford-Stumbo ticket because of this. I'm so sick of seeing Lunsford's commercial about healthcare and how it's immoral for our leaders to not provide help for everyone. Ever heard of Vencor, Bruce??? How immoral is it to profit to the tune of 10 million dollars off of senior citizens???

Labor will simply tell the truth about Lunsford . There is no need to attack Bruce all you need to do is tell the truth. As for your comment" they want their person". Labor has no person. Labor's support is split between candidates the only thing they agree on is anybody but Lunsford and Stumbo. Bruce and Greg have only themselves to blame they both insulted or attacked labor.

Unions can't pick a winner and are trying to become "SWIFT BOATERS." How sad.
It doesn't matter if the candidate is good for Kentucky, they want their person in at all cost. Its more than sad.
I assume that they want gambling and that why they are doing this. SAD, SAD, SAD.
