Nickolas Gets Out of Dodge

May 24, 2007

The man who runs BluegrassReport.org is moving to Big Sky country.

Mark Nickolas e-mailed friends and reporters tonight with the message that he and his girlfriend are moving to Montana, her home state. Nickolas is a former democratic party political consultant who moved to Kentucky after running the 2003 gubernatorial campaigns of Jody Richards and Ben Chandler. He stuck around to start the political blog before most of us knew what blogs were. Now, anybody with an interest in Kentucky politics checks his website at least once a day. You may not like what Nickolas writes or how he writes it, but those of us in the Frankfort press corps appreciate his research and tenacity. The republicans have some good bloggers in Kentucky, but noone that puts out the amount of material that Nickolas has, day in and day out. He will be missed on Kentucky's political landscape. The spin in here is getting sinister and dizzying.

If Mark Nickolas were truly a champion of lies, he'd have far more empathy and sympathy for the Governor and his Goobers.

BluegrassReport.org was influencial inasmuch as it helped shaped political coverage in the mainstream press, galvanize the opinions of its readers and mobilize a core constituency.

You can rant and rave ad nauseum about malicious lies and rumors (without citing one example, I might add), but you can't credibly deny that Nickolas' blog exposed the hyprocrisy and phony piety of the corrupt and inept Fletcher administration -- and helped strengthen the Democratic Party and its prospects.

When the electorate answers the electability question in November, we'll see how many people intentionally refuse to vote for people Nickolas supports.

Mark,

You amaze me ... you are right, Nickolas has tenacity. He is very tenacious when he decides to destroy a persons life for his own person gain. Nickolas has shown he will go to any length to destroy someone. He has shown by his words in his pieces that he will even resort to telling flat out lies about a person and spreading untrue MALICIOUS rumors with the only purpose being to destroy that person so that Nickolas' chosen candidate looks good.

His methods back fired. Most of the people Nickolas supported during 2006 race did not win. In fact, here is Nickolas' track record.

1. Nickolas was campaign manager for Jody Richards in the Primary 03 -- Nickolas & Richards LOST the Primary 03.
2. Nickolas was campaign manger for Ben Chandler in the General 03 -- Nickolas & Chandler LOST the General 03.
3. In General election 06 Nickolas vigorously supported -- Mike Weaver LOST, Ken Lucas LOST, Amy Shir LOST, Frank Rasche WON, Chris Frost LOST, Carol Rice Allen LOST, Mary Noble WON, Ann O'Malley Shake LOST.
4. 2007 Primary Nickolas vigorously supported/supports -- Jonathan Miller whose numbers dropped to 7% so Miller QUIT/DROPPED OUT, Anne Northup NOT DOING WELL IN POLLS.

Not an impressive track record. In fact, his track record shows that who ever reads his blog is NOT being influenced to vote Nickolas' way. Maybe, and I have heard people say, people intentionally refuse to vote for people Nickolas supports. I've heard that many times. I guess he doesn't have as much "influence" in politics as some journalists think?

You say that now anybody with an interest in politics checks his blog everyday. I am not sure how you would know that, but even if you are right, with all the many lies and untrue stories on his blog that even you know he has written, it is NOT a place people go for actual research on political figures or public officials. I know people who visit it just for a laugh because they think Nickolas is a laughing stock.

My amazement is that for some strange reason I always thought journalists took pride in "truth in print" which is something Nickolas is extremely deficient in. How in the world could any journalist with an ounce of integrity accept, promote and overlook an author who writes lies and tells untrue rumors about people?

Finally, I imagine one of the biggest reasons that other bloggers don't put out the amount of material Nickolas does is because the other bloggers DO have integrity and respect for "truth in print" and have better morals than to maliciously spread flat out lies about people.

PS. It isn't "hard" to write like Nickolas does, the only requirement to write the garbage and lies Nickolas writes is to have NO MORALS and NO INTEGRITY. Most people have morals and possess an level of integrity that escapes Mark Nickolas.

PPS. Since you are friends with Nickolas I don't expect you to post this truthful piece I wrote.
