More on Election Night
May 22, 2007
Couple of other thoughts on election night:
Biggest winner #2: Ernie Fletcher. Duh. The Fletcher comeback is only part way home but it's better than going home. Fletcher got half the vote of Kentucky republicans and will have to convince tens of thousands of democrats that he's done a good job "cleaning up the mess in Frankfort". While nearly every voter I talked to today said they didn't like much of what's gone on during the Fletcher administration, the good news for Fletcher is that republican and democratic voters both said the fall election WILL NOT be a referendum on Ernie Fletcher.
Biggest loser #3: TV sales people. No Bruce Lunsford money flowing into the TV stations for the next five weeks. Guess my big, middle of the year bonus is gone too!!
Cost per vote: Billy Harper spent $5 million to get about 29,000 votes. I'm no math whiz but I think that's about $172 per vote. At least Bruce Lunsford, with more democrats to choose from, got a little better bang for his buck. Lunsford spent at least $5 million to get about 75,000 votes. That's at least $66 per vote. I know they've both got the money to burn but you have to wonder if it couldn't have been better spent.
Funny note: Talked to one voter in Henry County today who said she voted for Bruce LUMS-ford and GRADY Stumbo. I corrected her and she did get Lunsford's name right the second time but never did understand that it wasn't the former Human Resources Secretary and Hindman doctor who was running for Lt. Governor. Dr. Grady Stumbo lost in the 1983 democratic primary for governor. Got a kick out of that one.
Anne Northup said early in the campaign that she would support the republican nominee for governor. She's not saying that now, refusing to directly answer the question. Fletcher probably doesn't want her or Steve Pence. How do Northup and Steve Pence repeatedly pound Fletcher on his ethics, failure to uphold the rule of law, embarrassing his own party and spending tax dollars to get elected and then turn around and say he'll make a great governor for the next 4 years?

Here's one "head" that "talked" and underestimated the percentage, too!

Frankfort had over 50% turnout to vote! Hummm....could it be we really know what is going on in Frankfort!
Go Steve! Go Steve!
By the way...Mark you have come a long way baby.....from the days of the State Journal here in Frankfort.

Still waiting for the talking heads to note that turnout (22% for Dems and 20% for Reps, while not what it should be in a democracy, far exceeded the dour predictions of less than 15% by the media and Sec of State
