Miller/Moore Will Be KDP Team UPDATED/GOP
May 24, 2007
Jonathan Miller will be the new chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party and Jennifer Moore will be the new vice-chair, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
Miller's nomination is expected to be announced at a democratic unity rally this afternoon in Frankfort. State Treasurer Miller dropped out of the governor's race and supported Steve Beshear, getting credit for jump starting Beshear's campaign.
Moore is the Louisville attorney who shot into the public eye while representing Virginia Woodward in her quest to get Dana Seum Stephenson removed from the state senate in 2004. The odd man (person) out in this equation is state rep. Joni Jenkins of Louisville who wanted to stay on as vice-chairman of the party. Jenkins says she's "disappointed" in the timing of her removal from the party heirarchy but understands that Beshear should have the right to name his own people to the top party posts. However, Jenkins' removal as vice-chair of the party could come back to haunt Beshear. Jenkins is close to House Speaker Pro-Tem Larry Clark and chairman of the House Licensing and Occupations committee, which traditionally sees the enabling legislation on casino gambling. Jenkins says any casino bill would get a fair hearing before her committee and she won't hold up any casino legislation that a Governor Beshear might be pushing in the 2008 legislative session. Legalizing casinos is a centerpiece of Beshear's campaign for governor.
UPDATE: Beshear said today that Miller will not make a salary but that the KDP board will discuss some sort of compensation for Moore. The Central Committee is scheduled to meet next week.
On the republican side, John McCarthy was seen coming and going from the governor's mansion on wednesday. One source says there's been a push to get McCarthy back in the Republican Party HQs as chairman. McCarthy didn't return a message left on his cell phone thursday afternoon.

sloan, Your cronyism comments are ridiculous. Who would you expect Beshear to nominate for Party Chair, someone he doesn't know or someone who isn't an ally? Confusing a pure political appoointment like Party Chair with replacing merit employees is way off the mark!! Can you say "waste, fraud, and abuse?"

Nobody's giving Miller anything. He's volunteering -- the chairmanship job for him doesn't involve any payment.

KUDOS to Steve Beshear for living up to his first pledge to put political friends in jobs. Steve Beshear promised to do his "dead level best" in GIVING Miller a job after Miller said publicly he would vote for Beshear.
I wonder, Mark Hebert, are you going to put some ink to that good ole boy, same ole political cronyism here that you did when Gov. Fletcher allegedly did the same thing?
Heck, Beshear isn't even in office yet and he is already giving jobs in exchange for votes. HAHAHA... and dems wonder why their party cannot unite?
HAHAHA ... It's because they keep making the same old mistakes. WE ARE SICK OF CRONYISM!
