Miller on the Fence

May 23, 2007

The new democratic nominee for governor, Steve Beshear, says Jerry Lundergan agrees with him that Beshear should decide who the new democratic party chairman will be.

According to several sources, Beshear offered the job to Jonathan Miller but Miller isn't sure he wants to do it. Miller is apparently weighing whether the party chairmanship will pay him enough money, will require too much work or will look like he had a prearranged deal with Beshear........Miller drops out and endorses Beshear in return for the party chair. A series of phone calls were flying around the phone lines in Lexington, Frankfort, Washington and Louisville today with Miller talking to political allies about the pros and cons of taking the reins of the Kentucky Democratic party. The other name being bandied about is Adam Edelen, a democratic party activist from Lexington. Beshear told me and Mark Flores of WLKY-TV that he hopes to have a new chairman within 48 hours.

Governor Fletcher told reporters that the republicans hope to have a new chairman "very soon".

Mark -- it's an unpaid gig for Miller. He's a volunteer chairman.

Miller, chair. Jennifer Moore, vice chair.

Write it down.
