Miller Drops Out
May 07, 2007
Jonathan Miller will be dropping out of the governor's race and endorsing Steve Beshear at a news conference this afternoon.
Despite raising more than one million dollars and running a flurry of TV ads in recent weeks, Miller actually dropped in the May 2nd Survey USA/WHAS 11 poll. Miller's campaign attempted to spin reporters that the Survey USA poll was all wrong and the Miller internal poll showing him a strong second was right, but few people were buying it.
Miller's decision to bail out is good news for Beshear because the two Lexingtonians were drawing support from the same crowd, the Fayette County-based, self proclaimed "good government" crowd. The question now is, what's the deal that's been cut between Beshear and Miller. Miller is too smart and talented to sit on the political sidelines. There's been plenty of speculation that Beshear might ask Miller to become Kentucky Democratic Party chairman if Beshear is the democrats nominee this fall. I'm not sure that's the right job for Miller who espouses a clean image. The hand to hand combat and dirty work required of any party chairman might not fit him. But we'll see what happens. It's certainly not a surprising announcement from the Miller camp. By the way, his running mate, Irv Maze recently won reelection as Jefferson County Attorney so he still has a job. Miller leaves the state treasurer's office at the end of this year.

Dave-
You have no idea what you are talking about. Miller is an honorable fellow.

Mark,
Maybe Miller will be a "silent" author on that blog he created with Mark Nickolas where Miller is the "silent" partner. You know, that blog Miller conceived and convinced Mark Nickolas to manage that is under state & federal investigation for corporate tax fraud?
I guess that even though Miller was elected Treasurer - and Miller's primary job as Treasurer was to PROTECT the tax system - protecting the tax system was NOT as important as stopping the corporation he conceived from committing a federal crime of defrauding the taxpayer?
I know you could care less about Miller's ethics or corruption or you, as a journalist, would have pressed Miller for answers ... as opposed giving Miller a free pass for his corrupt behavior and becoming his mouthpiece.
In January 2007 - Even after it became public that the state & Federal boys are going after Nickolas on his crimes, Jonathan Miller NEVER, EVER said that he was appalled that HIS friend would use the very blog that Miller conceived to proliferate corporate tax fraud.
WHY NOT? Answer: Because in the words of Miller, "SILENCE EQUALS COMPLICITY."
Fact is, IF: Miller REALLY knew how to do the job as Treasurer, Miller would have said, "Mark Nickolas and ANY OTHER person that commits corporate tax fraud should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
BUT: Because Miller did NOT care that his friend STOLE from the very tax system Miller was elected to protect, Jonathan Miller FAILED TO UPHOLD THE KY. CONSTITUTION AND FAILED TO UPHOLD THE OFFICE OF TREASURER TO WHICH HE WAS ELECTED.
That's a story you have tried to KEEP FROM your readers .. I guess 7% didn't know the facts swirling Miller while 93% DID know the facts ...
