Final Day

May 21, 2007

The final day of campaigning wasn't very interesting.

The day included Ernie Fletcher celebrating his 36th wedding anniversary by escorting Glenna on a plane around Kentucky for a series of media stops. Fletcher told reporters in Louisville that he's the one with the best chance of beating the democrats in the fall because of his record of accomplishment. Not more than an hour later, Northup told about 75 supporters at Bowman Field that republicans don't have to give up their ethical standards to vote for a candidate. She didn't give the rip roaring anti-Fletcher speech I've heard her give in the past, Steve Pence did that. Pence hit the nail on the head for Northup supporters by saying, if he was running for governor and done the things Ernie Fletcher has done, there's no way Fletcher would support him for governor. Erwin Roberts and Bob Gable were also at the Northup event. Northup has said she'll support the republican nominee in the fall but didn't have much of an answer when asked how she could support a guy she's accused of widespread ethical and legal lapses.
Fletcher told reporters the GOP will have open arms for everyone in the fall, including Steve Pence.

I didn't make the Beshear and Henry campaign stops in Louisville. Lunsford was in western kentucky and my wife got a robo call from Jody Richards claiming his campaign is moving toward victory and promising that he and his running mate will reevaluate the state's income and spending to see that Jefferson County gets "its fair share". I'm sure you already know about the anonymous e-mails that democrats received over the weekend, targeting Bruce Lunsford. They opened up to show the labor union's internet ad showing Lunsford endorsing Ernie Fletcher in 2003 as well as Ben Chandler's devastating "nursing home" TV ad in 2003. Lunsford's opponents all denied any thing to do with the e-mails. One of them was signed "your chairman", an obvious inference to Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Lundergan. An angry Lundergan says he's ordered a lawyer to sue the three internet server companies that the message moved through so they can get subpoenaes and find out who sent the cheap shot e-mails.

It may have been cheap[e-mail is the cheapest way the get your message out],but it was a great shot. My hats off to who ever sent our ad out. Someone please tell Jerry Lundergan about the 1st Amendment.

What? Jerry Lundergan is alive? I thought he died weeks ago?

Lunsford must be doing better than anyone thinks if these disgusting attack ads are deemed necessary.
