Endorsements About to Flow

May 04, 2007

Sources in the camps of two democratic candidates for governor expect the Courier-Journal editorial board to endorse the Steve Beshear/Daniel Mongiardo ticket in the May primary race for governor.

Those same sources say they expect the Lexington Herald-Leader to follow suit and also endorse the Beshear/Mongiardo ticket. While I'm not convinced that newspaper endorsements mean that much anymore, if Beshear is backed by Kentucky's two largest newspapers, it could help him with younger voters outside the Lexington area, many of whom don't know Beshear's background. It might also help Beshear with undecided voters who would rather vote for a candidate who has a chance to win, rather than someone who doesn't. I would suspect the newspaper endorsements in both the democratic and repubican primaries will come out this weekend since there are only three sundays left before election day.

I don't have any information on the republican side but I think anyone who follows Kentucky politics and media, including Ernie Fletcher, would be shocked if the C-J and H-L didn't endorse Anne Northup. We'll see.

I OBVIOUSLY DON'T PAY ENOUGH ATTENTION TO THE EDITORIAL PAGE!!!!! The C-J has already endorsed Northup!!!! Sorry for the mistake.
