Jones Endorsing Beshear
April 16, 2007
Steve Beshear's main campaign theme has been "legalize casinos" to help solve Kentucky's financial woes.
That push for casinos has apparently prompted former Gov. Brereton Jones to endorse Beshear, instead of Jonathan Miller, in the democratic primary. Beshear has secheduled a news conference with Jones tomorrow to announce the endorsement.
As you'll recall, Jones considered running for governor himself, reportedly striking a deal with Jack Conway as his running mate, until balking at the last minute.
Jones was also involved in discussions with Beshear, Miller, Crit Luallen and others about trying to find a single candidate that the "good government" democrats could support. Obviously that didn't happen, leading to the cavalry charge and mess that is now known as the Kentucky democratic primary race for governor.
All of the democratic candidates are scheduled to debate on KET tonight at 8.

Steve Beshears supported the Pay Day loan industry as a highly paid lobbyist in Frankfort. He was a major reason these people can charge up to 390 percent interest to people. Anyone who supports predatory lenders does not deserve the Governors office.
State Treasurer Jonathan Miller has the guts to speak about the tough issues affecting ordinary working class Kentuckians. He is a leader for the 21st Century. We have plenty of gray hairs running for Governor to continue the past.
As far a Brereton Jones endorsement, so what. Kentucky needs new leadership, not Beshears-70s-80s, Richards-last 32 yrs, Henry-90s, or Heaven help us Lunsford-Bankrupt businessman.
Vote for change, Vote for a new Kentucky.
