No severe weather around Kentuckiana today, as it looks like we have dodged one bullet. The Severe Thundestorm Watch has now been cancelled for most of Kentuckiana. A few more storms are possible tonight, but very little in the way of severe weather is expected.
Here's a big list of Kentuckiana storm reports from Friday night's line of storms. Get ready for the possibility of another round or two of storms Saturday afternoon and evening... PRELIMINARY LOCAL STORM REPORT...CORRECTED ..TIME... ...EVENT... ...CITY LOCATION... ...LAT.LON... A line of strong thunderstorms with a history of damaging winds and hail is moving closer to Kentuckiana tonight. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been in effect for areas in southern Indiana and western Kentucky. This will be moving quickly east as the night progresses and the storms move closer. This line is associated with what we call a "vort max", basically a wave in the middle levels of the atmoshpere. This vort is a strong kicker, he... We'll have more of those "splash n' dash" storms again on Friday. These storms really aren't too worrisome, just go inside if you hear the thunder. Different story on Saturday however. A cold front will move through Kentuckiana late Saturday afternoon and evening. Some cold air high in the sky will also tag al... Ok. Yes, it is summer. Time to heat things back up. We will see the highs climbing back into the low 90s today with above normal temps expected as we head into the upcoming weekend. This heat, along with higher humidities thanks to a south wind, will help bring back showers and thunderstorms. A few of the storms could be on the strong side by Saturday with gusty winds and heavy rain. Just watch the skies during the heating of the next fe... It's been very nice the last couple of days... We can thank the dewpoints and not the relative humidity for our comfortable weather. I know there are some of you now saying "Monty, it's not the heat, it's the humidity..." Dewpoint: The temperature to which a given air parcel must be cooled at constant pressure and constant water vapor content in order for saturation to occur. (The temperature at which ... Boy, the last week or so has been so nice compared to what we saw for weather the first 2 weeks of June! Sure, we have seen some showers and storms, but the best part has been the lack of 90 degree heat and return of cool and dry mornings. It just helps make everyone's mood better when you can start off with the cool mornings first. Those will be ending soon as the winds will be shifting more to the south as our next system draws near. Low... Check out this radar image. Normally these storm would not look severe. Most areas were recieving light to moderate rain. However, as these storms were collapsing, they pulled down winds aloft from 40-60 mph. These produced a damaging gust front (rush of air) ahead of the line, which downed trees and some powerlines. Damage reports have been coming in from southern areas of Bullit county, Nelson county (especially around Bardstown), Hardi... NOAA's Climate Prediction Center has released the latest July outlook. After a warmer than average June (remember the heat wave?), July could turn out cooler than average and a bitter wetter than normal for Kentuckiana. Here's a look at the month of July outlooks...
A northwest flow continues to dominate our weather pattern. This time of year that means we get to enjoy cooler and drier weather. This Friday a weak disturbance will slide down that northwest flow and give us a slight for a stray late day shower or storm. We have another chance for a shower/storm over the weekend (20-40%), but don't let it stop your outdoor plans, just be ready to run inside for a few minutes to let it pass. The dry... A cold front pushed through Kentuckiana today (Monday)... A few storms managed to fire up out ahead of the front earlier this morning and after that our atmosphere did a good job of stabilizing itself. Most of the active weather associated with the front was confined to our south and east. Behind the front a cooler and drier northwesterly flow will develop in the upper atmosphere and that will put us on the cooler side of the jet stream. Th...
