Nation's Winter Outlook

8:43 PM Sat, Oct 17, 2009 |

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its Winter Outlook, with no big surprises for us. As previously forecasted, an El Nino event is expected through the winter months. El Nino is a warming of the equatorial waters in the central Pacific Ocean. This pattern could give us drier and chillier weather than average. It doesn't necessarily mean an all calm and chilly winter, as extreme weather events can happen even in "boring" weather patterns. This simply means, if you average it all out, our winter could turn out just below average in terms of temperatures, and possibly much drier than average as far as precipitation goes. For the full story click on the NOAA link above.

I really like this statement from NOAA... "This seasonal outlook does not predict where and when snowstorms may hit or total seasonal snowfall accumulations. Snow forecasts are dependent upon winter storms, which are generally not predictable more than several days in advance."

Here are you maps.
