Alright, I'm calling our June of 2009, "jumping June". Why you ask? Well, the last half of the month included not only jumping temperatures and humidity, but also rainfall.
Our heatwave lasted around 12 days, starting on the 17th with our first 90 degree day of the year. We ended up with 8 days at or above 90 degrees. A little above the average of 6.5 days for the month.
The humidity was another issue during this time. I saw the dew point (measure of moisture) up to 75-77 degrees. The highest I've ever seen the dew point was during a tropical storm, at 80. Very tropical indeed. If you are confused about what the dew point is, basically, if you cooled the air down until dew formed on something, that temperature is the dew point. Dew points above 60-65 start making the air feel muggy.
The biggest story for June was the excessive rainfall and storms. 9.22" fell at the official spot for Louisville. As we've talked about, that's the 2nd wettest June on record.
Now we're completely opposite going into July. We start the first week mainly dry, with temperatures at or below average, with even some highs only in the upper 70s!!
