April 2009 ArchivesA must for this years Oaks and Derby... A RAIN PONCHO!!! Showers and a few thunderstorms will move through the region over night with locally heavy rain (up to half an inch). The showers will end by 8 am, then a little break until a cold front arrives bringing with it more showers/storms after 3 pm. The front stalls out over us for Derby... Yep, more showers and storms! Highs only in the 60s. (Bet on the M... Keep the rain gear handy the next three days... The atmosphere is juiced up with dewpoints in the 60s. This afternoon scattered thunderstorms developed in Grayson county (along the stationary front that is draped across Kentucky) and dumped more than an inch. An upper level system that is exiting OK and TX will interact with the stationary front and give us a good chance for showers/storms by late morning-midday tomorrow. T... This year WHAS11 is fielding two teams and hopefully it will increase our odds of winning the coveted Rose' Trophy! And from what I understand Team #1 is considered to be the favorite by most odd makers... LOL... There will be 53 of us going for a hole in one at Seneca Golf Course on Tuesday at 6pm, for one million dollars! The forecast remains the same for Tuesday through Friday with scattered showers and thunderstorms with temperatures in the 70s. But, it looks like a front will clear everything out just in time for the Derby. Right now, Saturday's forecast calls for clearing skies, and cooler temperatures in the upper 60s!

The weather looks great for both the Balloon Glow and Race. Winds should be out of the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.
The Louisville Fire and Rescue Golf Scramble for the Crusade for Children is Monday at Quail Chase Golf Club, on what looks to be a cool, breezy, cloudy, showery day. No matter, sounds like some good ol' Scottish type of golf. Golf isn't just for sunny, calm days. It doesn't look like there will be a threat of thunder, so play shouldn't be cancelled due to the rain. I'll be out there with Andy Treinen, our director Donald Zalewa, and produ... Wet. That's the weather for our Sunday. Even Monday will have some wrap-around showers. We'll have to try to dodge some of the rain for the Bats/Indians game today...
It looks like there will b... Thunder has provided us with a wide variety of weather, from sleet to sunshine and everything inbetween. Temperatures for the Air Show have ranged from chilly 41 to a very warm 83 degrees. Fireworks temperatures have seen a big spread too... From a nice 72 degrees to a cold 35. Last year was chilly and a little damp... The best weather for Thunder was 2004... The worst was in 2005 with cold rain and a high of 41. A... The models have been slowing down the system on Saturday and that is good news for Thunder. The best chance for showers will be after 11PM. There is a slight chance (20% or less) that we could see a stray shower by late afternoon or evening, but don't let that stop you from heading down to the riverfront and enjoying the show! Temperature will be in the low 70s in the afternoon and mid 60s during the fireworks. Don't forget a light ... We're cool and pretty cloudy with temps in the 50s for today and tomorrow. But, after that, we're off to the races with a nice warm-up!

Several of these storms developed into supercell thunderstorms and doppler radar indicated rotation within the storms and prompted tornado warnings being issued for Lawrence, Jackson, Washington and Jennings County in Indiana. Looks like Kentuckiana will recieve a one, two punch from a strong storm system approaching from the west. Tonight showers cover most of Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky out ahead of a warm front that extends from Kansas to the KY/TN border.
