EFFECTIVE THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 220 PM UNTIL A very strong storm system is still taking aim on Kentuckiana. The associated cold front has all ready produced severe thunderstorms and tornadoes today from Oklahoma through Louisiana. This system looks like it will be developing a squall line of strong to severe storms and moving them through the area between 3-9pm.
A very strong storm system is developing in the southern plains and will be heading our way Friday night-Saturday. This guy has the potential to produce severe weather for Kentuckiana. The main threat from any severe storms that may develop would be hail, damaging winds and maybe an isolated tornado. Right now I think the best chance for severe weather will be from Green County and south. However, if the low tracks 50-100 miles further wes... Looks like soccer will be washed out this weekend. A low is expected to impact us by late Friday night and Saturday. It will have all the warmth and moisture it needs by the time it gets here to create some heavy rain showers and thunderstorms. The best chance for severe storms will be the further south you are in the area. The rain could also cause flooding problems. Looks like a busy Saturday! ...Some much needed rain will move through Kentuckiana overnight through Wednesday morning. Right now we are running more than 3.5" behind average this year! We have another shot for showers during the first half of Thursday, then a much stronger system is on tap for Friday night-Saturday. The system for Saturday looks like it could be a soaker with some models painting more than two inches for us. Check out the GFS model below... It ... We're basically stuck in no-man's land for the next 24 hours. We've got no strong area of high pressure (nice weather), or strong area of low pressure (worse weather) nearby, so we're in the middle. This means there really is no force to force our clouds out of here. It will be the land of calmness on Sunday, but also cloudiness. An upper level weather system is bringing a winter mix to parts of Kentucky this evening and tonight. A LINE OF STRONG SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE THROUGH THE AREA OVER THE NEXT HOUR. THE STRONGEST STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING WIND GUSTS 40 TO 50 MPH AS WELL AS A BRIEF PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN AND LIGHTNING. ...Get ready for a strong line of thunderstorms to move into Kentuckiana after 1 AM. Some of these storms will produce gust of 45-55 mph and locally heavy rain, that could lead to street flooding. It's not official yet, but the path of damage we saw from Sky11 in Fayetteville, Indiana in Lawrence County, just five miles west of Be... There is now a Moderate Risk for severe storms over southern Indiana, with a Slight Risk over Kentucky. A Tornado Watch has been extended east, but is still just west of Kentuckiana.
Get ready for more darkness in the morning, and more brightness in the evening. Sunrises will be occuring after 8am now, and sunsets just before 8pm. A sure sign spring is just around the corner. We managed a high of 76 Saturday afternoon! That's the warmest it's been since way back during the first week of November - four months ago!! Just five shy of the record 81, set back in the year 2000, and 1974. So, what did you do out in the inspiring, rejuvenating, spring-like air? A cold front will move into Kentuckiana Sunday bringing with it a chance for showers and thunderstorms. There ... Starting April 1, 2009 the National Weather Service will change the hail size criterion for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings from three-quarters of an inch to one inch in diameter (and/or winds of 58 mph or greater). Research has shown that significant property damage does not occur until hailstone sizes reach the one inch threshold. The National Weather Service believes (and I agree with them) the new wa... See you out in the yard by then! ...Well, we dodged this one! Thanks to a vigorous upper level low pressure system, heavy snow has fallen over the Deep South. In parts of eastern Arkansas, and southern Tennessee 5-10 inches of snow piled up. Snow also accumulated over Alabama, Georgia, and the system is now heading up the east coast. I lived in Augusta, Georgia for four years, and the most I ever saw was a flurry. Now, they've got a Winter Storm Warning! Areas in G... If you're like me, you're itchin' for some spring weather!
