November 2008 ArchivesWe're talking about some big weather on this big travel day. If the family is heading home, it's more than likely they'll head into either snow or rain. Around southern Indiana, Kentucky, and areas south, we're talking all rain today. Central and northern areas of Indiana and Illinois, it is all snow. Snow gets heavier over northern areas Indiana and Illinois. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through tonight for those areas, and eve... After Thanksgiving many of us try to get active to burn off the thousands of extra calories we endulged with the family. It's also a time when the weather can get pretty active too! It looks like our December will start off on the busy side. Our first storm brings rain Sunday, then snow Monday. Accumulations will likely be well less than a half inch in most areas by Monday night, and mainly on grassy surfaces. The secon... My 6 year old kept saying we would be sledding on Thanksgiving. Maybe she really meant the Thanksgiving holiday weekend? A pretty decent storm system is still projected to head in late Saturday and Sunday. The exact track will determine who gets more rain versus snow, but averaging the models out would give us some light accumulations by Monday morning. Could be messy and very busy for weather and traffic on the 1's!! ...Boy, the latest bug has been leveling kids left and right. We have 2 down with 2 to go! Just in time for the holidays. Oh well. Try to get lots of rest and wash those hands often! Have a great holiday. The weather looks great with sunny skies and highs back to normal. Finally. We'll tweak that weekend forecast over the next few days! ...Just fantastic (sarcastic), looks like a wet commute for our Monday...hope that doesn't give you a "case of the Mondays!" A cold front is crossing the area, and with it we could see anywhere from a 1/4 to 3/4" of rainfall. Cold air will race right in behind the front Monday night. With a little wrap-around moisture, we will likely once again see some patchy light snow and flurries overnight through Tuesday morning. No accumulation i...
It was the coldest morning so far this season, with temperatures starting off in the TEENS! I even saw a couple ponds with a thin layer of ice. If the idea of winter settling in hasn't settled in yet, that image should do the trick. March 9th was the last time we had temperatures in the teens. Just as cold and crazy is our high temperature. Friday's high was 36, guess what, today's high was 36 too! That's 15-20 degrees below ave... Light snow moved through Kentuckiana this evening giving some us light dusting on grassy areas. With temperatures droping well below freezing later this evening we will need to watch out for icy spots on the roads (especially bridges and overpasses). Staying cold and cloudy tonight with a few more flurries or light snow. Lows back in the 20s and wind chills in the teens. Thanksgiving is a week away and everyone (including my lovely wife) is asking me about the weather... Before I share the forecast I thought it might be fun to look back a few years at previous Thanksgivings. Average Thanksgiving... High: low 50s and Low: mid 30s November 22, 2007... 66/34; Rain: .04" Yep, still another shot of cold Canadian air heading our way for Thursday and Friday. We are stuck in a cold flow and it doesn't look like any big change for the rest of the week and into the weekend. Plan on more indoor activities with the kids or be ready to bundle up! ...Looks like the jackets went on without any fuss this morning at the Martin Mansion! No phone call. Hopefully it went as smooth at your house. Tomorrow morning will be a couple of degrees colder with the clear skies and light winds tonight. Keep the heavy jackets out. Another shot of cold air on Thursday will keep this colder than normal trend going into the weekend. No need to take the plants out yet. ...Ok, my wife and I can't be the only ones going through this lately! Our 13 year old thinks it's tropical weather outside in November. I know the story has been the same forever, but make sure you win the battle over the next few days. The days will be starting out in the 20s and Tuesday's high will only be around 40. Keep those jackets and hats on! We'll all be watching! ......update 9:14pm...just talked to Monty, he said he also had a dusting on the deck, some on the grass, and rooftops...but, he forgot to take a picture. If anyone got any pictures of the early morning dusting of snow, we'd love to see them. Send em' our way! ...update 8:11pm...well, I shouldn't have given up so soon! I finally did see a flurry, with very small flakes, mixed with tiny ice pellets. Also got some reports of a little d... Well, it looks like we will see our first snowflakes of the season late Saturday evening! That's the easy part of the forecast... A cold front is currently pushing through the area bringing Kentuckiana a nice dose of rain overnight. Temperatures will fall all day Saturday behind the front, with gusty northwesterly winds. We'll start the morning off in the 40s and drop into the mid to upper 30s by evening (look for some rain and sno... Still keeping a close eye on those models in regards to this weekend's possible snowfall. It still looks like the best chance of accumulating snow will stay off to our north. Our area will see some light rain mixing in with light snow late Saturday with light snow late Saturday night. Just a dusting expected, but hey, it's something! ...Yep, a wet one for Veterans Day and yes, my b-day. Rachel brought in a cake for this morning for a surprise. Much to her suprise, it said Happy Brithday, instead of birthday! Yikes! No spell check on cakes yet. It was very nice and we all enjoyed the extra sugar for the morning! Don't forget to keep thew Veterans, past and present, in your thoughts today. Their sacrificies should never be forgotten. Have a safe day. See you in the mor... I had a viewer tonight send me an email asking about the ring she saw around the moon... Tonight Monday Nov 10,08 there is a huge ring around the moon it seems like a mile out from the moon, my question is why is there a ring around the moon? I tried to take a picture to send but the ring did not come out on the picture. I really would like to know why. Thanks Kay Ezzell Hi Kay... Great Question! He... Nope, not the flakes you eat for breakfast, and not the ones that fall out of your hair on a very dry day...I'm talking about the atmospheric snowflakes that fall from the sky on a cold winter day. Even though it's still just fall, there's a chance we could see a few of these snowflakes next weekend. It's still a long ways out in the forecasting world, but one of our long range weather models has been hinting at the chance for a lit... PALOMA IS NOW THE SECOND STRONGEST ATLANTIC HURRICANE EVER NOTED IN The hurricane will move over Cuba through Sunday afternoon, then die traveling north near the Bahamas Tuesday. The storm is Category 3 strength, with winds sustained at 120 mph. Paloma is the 8th hurricane of the season, the 17th named storm of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season. It is going to end up an above average year for th... It may not be a real word, but it's exactly what comes to mind when I think about cloudy, chilly, showery weather. The perfect Thanksgiving weather that makes you appreciate the warmth of a fire, after the numbness of throwing a football in 40 degree weather. This is the type of weather we can expect for at least the next week. Cold and cloudy weather will be around Sunday and Monday, although, the first part of Monday will be most... Boy, the last couple of days have been great for getting out and enjoying the beautiful colors of Fall! From the Knobs to the river, we are seeing all the reds, oranges and yellows really coming out. One thing that would be bad would be a strong front with heavy rain and high winds. That would knock a lot of the leaves off early. We may get a tad bit of both late Thursday and early Friday. Doesn't look like it will be for very long though... |
