Fairwell Fay

7:18 PM Sun, Aug 24, 2008 |

Tropical Storm Fay will go into the record books as the most land falling tropical system in history. Florida took all the hits and buckets of rain, over 20 inches fell in many areas, with reports of up to 30 inches. 35 people have died primarily from Fay's flooding rains. Millions of dollars of damage to crops, businesses, and homes has occurred. The name Fay will likely be retired after causing this kind of devastation. This is an image of the estimated rainfall over the last week in Florida, pretty intense!

The storm has been a curse, and a blessing, as it has spread much needed rainfall over parts of drought-stricken Georgia and Alabama. The moisture from Fay will begin to surge north towards Kentuckiana. The mid and upper level moisture is already overspreading our area, just look up at that milky sky. We'll continue to have filtered sunshine over the next several days as Fay's leftovers slowly move north. Most of the rainfall will be south over central and southern Kentucky through Wednesday, but a few showers and storms will be possible before Fay's moisture shifts east Thursday.
