The Kentucky State Fair has come to a finish. In a way, it is the unofficial end of the summer. One last summer blast! The fair is a wonderful magnet, bringing all walks of life together. What's great about the fair is that you can come as you are. Unlike a night out on 4th Street Live, at the fair you can show off your play clothes, not your pricy ones. Where else could I get some sort of animal pooh on my shirt and shoes and not give a pooh. My wife, daughter, and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the fairgrounds. Usually our one-and-a half year old only sees large livestock in one of her many animal books, but the fair brought the piggies, horsies, moo-cows, and sheep to life. It was the funniest thing watching her run down the aisle of cows, and then down the swine lanes. She would put her arm out to touch the pig's nose, but chicken out at the last moment. Even to me those big animals are a little more intimidating in person. Though for the first part of my life, I lived out in the country; my life has never revolved around livestock. It's cool to have those animals brought to the city for us city-slickers. It's great to see folks show off their hard work, sharing their best with all of us. Then our little girl had her first bite of funnel cake. I proceeded to get the powdered sugar all over my shirt and shorts. Now, powdered sugar covered pooh on my shirt, fantastic! What a great dessert after a foot-long dog with chili, onions, relish, cheese, mustard, and coleslaw! I had over two feet of meat in a roll in two days. On Tuesday, WHAS11 Day, I had the foot-long with all that stuff on it, then a polish sausage with peppers and onions, then the next day a hot dog. I regret not trying the pork chop sandwich, there just wasn't any room left! It was great meeting many of you on WHAS11 Day in the south wing. I'm surprised I ever found the booth! The place is simply immense. I've never seen so many exhibits before in my life, an insane amount of stuff! It's like 10 superstores side by side. I probably only got see one/one-hundreth of the booths and exhibits. It was certainly an amazing get together for Kentuckiana, and thankfully the weather turned out great, despite some high heat towards the end. I can't wait until next year, hopefully my daughter will kiss the pigs then, just like the GMK team :). Well, I just felt like sharing some of our moments at the 2008 Kentucky State Fair. Feel free to share your favorite moments, any pooh on your shirt?? |
