It was my first Fourth of July in Louisville, and all I have to say is, this town can party! It was also my first time being on center stage in front of thousands of poeple at the Fifth/Third Bank Waterfront Independence Festival. Monty, Jamie, and myself helped introduce some of the bands Thursday and Friday. I also have to say, it can be a little intimidating getting up on that stage. It's funny, I used to want to be a rock star (I can play an ok guitar). But, it took me being a big weather dork to finally get up on a stage like that :). Back to the partying...even with the threat of rain, no one was afraid of the funk on the Fourth! Just before George Clinton stepped up on stage, there had to be 20,000 people chanting, "We want the funk!". All the bands heated up the stage, but thankfully the weather was fairly cool both days. It was certainly one of our cooler Independence Day's in quite some time. So, after it's over I'm driving home and I've never seen so many fireworks all around a city before. In every direction the sky was booming and being lit up. Later in the evening when the fireworks quited down, there was a quiet evidence of all the activity. A nice gun powder smelling fog all over the place. Isn't the Fourth great! It's definitely one of my favorite holidays, and it's great to see it celebrated in such an awesome way around Kentuckiana!! It's also wonderful to see the tradition and love of country hasn't faded, as those bright and beautiful fireworks gave proof! |
