Odd Damaging Storms Sunday

7:34 PM Sun, Jun 22, 2008 |

Check out this radar image. Normally these storm would not look severe. Most areas were recieving light to moderate rain. However, as these storms were collapsing, they pulled down winds aloft from 40-60 mph. These produced a damaging gust front (rush of air) ahead of the line, which downed trees and some powerlines. Damage reports have been coming in from southern areas of Bullit county, Nelson county (especially around Bardstown), Hardin, and Breckinridge counties. Today's storm reports graphic is below the radar image. Click for a large view at the Storm Prediction Center.
