Lots of dry air is moving in with our west and northwest winds. The low humidity levels will be pretty rare for this time of the year, so get out and enjoy! Our weather gradually gets back to summer. By tomorrow, we will see the humidity returning. No showers expected, just highs near 90. The showers and storms return for Thursday as a cold front moves in. The front will stall over the region throug... I'm all for a bit of a cool-down. Check out the flow...notice anything special? Yep, t... So far, so good. No severe weather around Kentuckiana today, as it looks like we have dodged one bullet. The Severe Thundestorm Watch has now been cancelled for most of Kentuckiana. A few more storms are possible tonight, but very little in the way of severe weather is expected.

We'll have more of those "splash n' dash" storms again on Friday. These storms really aren't too worrisome, just go inside if you hear the thunder. Different story on Saturday however. A cold front will move through Kentuckiana late Saturday afternoon and evening. Some cold air high in the sky will also tag al... Ok. Yes, it is summer. Time to heat things back up. We will see the highs climbing back into the low 90s today with above normal temps expected as we head into the upcoming weekend. This heat, along with higher humidities thanks to a south wind, will help bring back showers and thunderstorms. A few of the storms could be on the strong side by Saturday with gusty winds and heavy rain. Just watch the skies during the heating of the next fe... It's been very nice the last couple of days... We can thank the dewpoints and not the relative humidity for our comfortable weather. I know there are some of you now saying "Monty, it's not the heat, it's the humidity..." Dewpoint: The temperature to which a given air parcel must be cooled at constant pressure and constant water vapor content in order for saturation to occur. (The temperature at which ... Boy, the last week or so has been so nice compared to what we saw for weather the first 2 weeks of June! Sure, we have seen some showers and storms, but the best part has been the lack of 90 degree heat and return of cool and dry mornings. It just helps make everyone's mood better when you can start off with the cool mornings first. Those will be ending soon as the winds will be shifting more to the south as our next system draws near. Low... Check out this radar image. Normally these storm would not look severe. Most areas were recieving light to moderate rain. However, as these storms were collapsing, they pulled down winds aloft from 40-60 mph. These produced a damaging gust front (rush of air) ahead of the line, which downed trees and some powerlines. Damage reports have been coming in from southern areas of Bullit county, Nelson county (especially around Bardstown), Hardi... NOAA's Climate Prediction Center has released the latest July outlook. After a warmer than average June (remember the heat wave?), July could turn out cooler than average and a bitter wetter than normal for Kentuckiana. Here's a look at the month of July outlooks...
A northwest flow continues to dominate our weather pattern. This time of year that means we get to enjoy cooler and drier weather. This Friday a weak disturbance will slide down that northwest flow and give us a slight for a stray late day shower or storm. We have another chance for a shower/storm over the weekend (20-40%), but don't let it stop your outdoor plans, just be ready to run inside for a few minutes to let it pass. The dry... A cold front pushed through Kentuckiana today (Monday)... A few storms managed to fire up out ahead of the front earlier this morning and after that our atmosphere did a good job of stabilizing itself. Most of the active weather associated with the front was confined to our south and east. Behind the front a cooler and drier northwesterly flow will develop in the upper atmosphere and that will put us on the cooler side of the jet stream. Th...

A cold front will be moving through the area Monday bringing some showers and thunderstorms, more importantly, cooler air will be following right behind for Tuesday! Believe it, or not, we haven't had temperatures at or below average since May 28th. The entire month of June has been above normal. Finally for much of the upcoming workweek, we'll find temperatures at or below normal in the upper 70s and low 80s. Here's some June data for you... The strongest storms have move east of our area and are now heading towards the Lexington area. We do have more storms to our west and it looks like the strongest storms with this line should slide south. ...Boy, what a great start to the day! It actually got down into the upper 50s for some folks! The dry air is already getting midified though as the winds are switching to the southeast. Still nice most of the day. Most of us would rather see 80 than 90, but nothing we can do about that. We get pretty muggy by tomorrow afternoon with some summertime afternoon showers and storms expected. Friday look like an interesting weather day with a fe... Partly Cloudy vs. Partly Sunny... The debate has gone on for centuries! (Ok, maybe not quite that long). There is a widespread public perception that Partly Sunny sounds more bright and cheery then does Partly Cloudy. So is this debate a matter of seeing the sky half empty or half full? Partly Cloudy and Partl... Nice change this morning for our temps. Finally breaking out of that 80 degree heat greeting us over the past few mornings. If you liked the lows today, you are gonna love tomorrow morning. Lows will drop back to seasonable levels with mid 60s downtown and upper 50s to near 60 on the rural areas. Just like Monty, this is my first post on the WHAS11.com Blog, and I hope to make it an interesting one. I thought I had escaped the Georgia-Carolina-like heat by moving north to Louisville, but I seem to be wrong. While heat waves like this have occured before in early June, it's still hard to get used to it right off the bat. We're going to be on "Record Watch" over the next week. W... Boy, where did our gentle Spring go! Comfortable temps and no severe weather....ahhhhhhh.....if only that would have lasted. My family will be joing me after the school year (my son's school doesn't get out until the end of June). I can't wait... I'm getting pretty tired of frozen dinners!
