Wow, what a snowstorm! So what's next?

7:08 PM Sat, Mar 08, 2008 |

The official snow total topped out at a whopping 10.4 inches at the airport. This is good for the second most snowfall ever recorded from a storm during the month of March! Snow totals ranged from approximately 10 to 13 inches across the metro area. The storm was accompanied by lightning and thunder! The winds also gusted to more than 30 mph creating snow drifts of two to three feet!

So what’s next?

Following the Big Snow, we'll see some slow improvements over the next few days... The combination of a heavy coating of snow, some clearing and light winds will allow temperatures to drop way down into the teens Saturday night as wind chills drop into the teens. Bundle up out there!

Following a very cold start on Sunday, we'll see the return of some sunshine and a light south wind that will help to push the temperatures into the upper 30's to near 40 degrees. This should be enough to melt off any remaining snow cover on those roadways. This will also make for some good sledding, snowman making and of course snow ball fights! By Sunday night, we'll be tracking the arrival of another wintry system. This one won't pack quite the punch of the previous storm, but a few snow showers will be possible late Sunday night and into Monday. At this time, only very minor accumulations of an inch or less are expected. Monday will remain chilly with highs in the upper 30's.

Say goodbye to the snow. We’ll see a significant warm up by the middle of the week as temperatures push 60 degrees!

i think next winter is going to be a doooozy... if we could get a snow like this one past in early jan we would be in business... i was reading where some NASA scientists think we are finishing up an active sun cylcle that has lasted 11 years... active sun=warmer global temps. inactive sun=cooler temps- hmmm... some of them are predicting a cooling trend.. could this be the start of it???

Mardi,

I believe the accumulating snow ended by around or just before noon on Saturday in Louisville. We actually got a pretty good burst between about 9 and 11am.

And yes Matt, You did predict that we'd be getting a good snow. Looks like you were right. But the real trick is to predict when it will occur!

Too bad it didn't stick around any longer.

Jeremy: Can you tell me when the snow actually stopped coming down? I say it was around 3:00 on Saturday, March 8. Everyone else seems to think it ended on Friday night!
