What a week! Tornadoes on Tuesday, January 29 to winter storm warnings by Thursday, January 31. Will things start to settle down a little? Hardly. Another big storm is slated to move out of the southwest and take aim on this area early in the week of February 4. As this storm develops on Monday, our winds will once again get stronger out of the south. This will drive our temperatures to above normal levels early in the week with highs in the 50’s on Monday and near 60 Tuesday. Does this sound a little familiar? By Tuesday the low will be thoroughly cranked up and will be moving right across the lower Ohio Valley. If nothing else we can expect another round of heavy rain but, unfortunately, there comes a risk for another bout of early season severe weather. Far from a guarantee as of this writing but early projections would put us on the western edge of a threat for severe storms Tuesday afternoon with the higher probabilities of severe storms to be found farther to the east and south. Meanwhile, we continue to keep an eye out for any potentially big winter storm (after all it is winter) but are coming up empty. True, there are chances for flurries or snow showers later next week but nothing stands out at this time. And, frankly, I don’t see much happening in the way of wintry weather even into the following week of February 11. But, it is winter and the weather pattern is very active and changes can and do happen. Remember, some of our heaviest snows have occurred as late as the end of March. Don’t give up hope snow fans. |
