Severe storm déjà vu?

9:31 PM Sun, Feb 03, 2008 |

Kentuckiana was hit hard last Tuesday with widespread damaging winds and even a few confirmed tornadoes. Unfortunately, those same conditions appear to be coming again one week later...

Call it déjà vu, but here we go again with the possibility of more severe weather on Tuesday. Like last week, a potent upper level storm system and associated cold front will pull out of the Rockies and interact with abundant warm and moist air now moving into the region. This will set the stage for some heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next couple of days.

Although some heavy rains will be possible by Monday night, the risk of severe weather looks to remain low through early on Tuesday. However, just like last week, a powerful cold front will plow through the area sometime Tuesday evening increasing our risk of severe weather. This front will likely spark a squall line of thunderstorms. These storms will be capable of producing some very heavy rains and widespread damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

Much like we saw with last Tuesday’s storms, in addition to the threat of damaging straight line winds, isolated weak tornadoes might also be possible. Hopefully the events of last week won’t be repeated, but it certainly bears watching. Stay tuned.
