Now, the question is will we get any snow out of it. Let me start by admitting that I am not keen on snow. I love snow as long as it’s somewhere else or, if it is here, that I am guaranteed not to have to shovel it or drive in it. If I can stand looking out at it through my living room window, drinking a cup of coffee, I am content. I’m just funny that way. OK, let’s talk snow. The best chance we get to have a “big” snow is when a loaded, low pressure system comes out of the Gulf of Mexico around New Orleans and tracks northeast from there. When that low travels across central Tennessee into eastern Kentucky we normally are in line for some heavy snow. That hasn’t happened recently and is not expected to happen anytime soon. What we will see for the next week is a number of cold fronts that will sweep through this area bringing new installments of cold air and a chance for a few snow showers or flurries. Anytime a mention of snow showers shows up in the forecast, you should immediately think an inch or less of accumulation. That is what we have in the forecast through Wednesday, January 23. What remains farther down the road? There’s a chance for snow or rain on Thursday, January 24 and that could be of some interest to all snow lovers. There is another chance for snow or rain on Saturday, January 26 but I feel this may be a rain episode. And perhaps something significant by the very end of January or very early in February but that’s too far out to be anything more than a hunch. Remember this. We can get some truly wicked winter weather anytime from mid January through mid February. And, some of our heaviest snowfalls have come at the end of March. All this means is that we still have a long way to go in winter. We’ll keep you informed. |
