More January Thunderstorms...
I know we saw heavy rain and thunderstorms just Tuesday and yes I know this is January. But believe it or not, we’re about to see it again...
As another strong area of low pressure develops to our west today, moisture will stream up from the Gulf of Mexico. This moisture will ride up and over a dome of cool air at the surface bringing clouds and a chance of showers here through the morning hours today. The rain will pick up in intensity by this afternoon with thunderstorms becoming possible as the low pressure deepens and approaches the area by late in the day.
Any storms that develop will have the capability of producing some gusty winds and small hail. Rainfall amounts could be generous on the order of an inch to an inch and a half across the metro area. The heavy rains could cause flooding concerns for portions of Southern Indiana that saw flooding from Tuesday’s rainfall. Showers look to taper off by this evening as a cold front races through the region.
Behind the front, temperatures will turn significantly colder over the next several days and your weather will become much more January-like. In fact, we’ll even see a chance of snow on Sunday with temperatures in the 30’s.
