The coldest air of the season is headed toward Kentuckiana.
There, I thought that would get you attention. The fact is with each new incursion of cold air following a strong cold front, meteorologist will be teasing their weather forecast with that line, “The coldest air of the season is coming”.
Get used to that expression as you will be hearing it a lot of it on into January. And, it does appear that we have another shot of cold air ready to move into the Ohio Valley toward the middle of next week. When I was preparing my forecast today, I was coming up with some numbers for high temperatures in the high 40’s for Tuesday and Wednesday, November 6 & 7. Since computer models can overdo forecasts of cold air (and snow) from time to time, I’m only forecasting highs in the low to mid 50’s at this time but that would still put it into the category of “the coldest air of the season”. See I told you that you would hear that expression a lot.
A few other things before I sign off. The severe weather episode of October 18 may very well be the last of the year but I don’t start to relax a little until mid November so you shouldn’t either.
As of this writing, we are tracking Tropical Storm Noel. Hurricane season still goes for another month but there have been cases of tropical weather in December and January.
As we start getting closer to the winter season, I’ll keep you apprised of potential winter weather even farther out then our 10 day forecast. So check in regularly.

Hi, Ken!!!:)
WOW!!!~ Another fantastic "weather blog"!:D Didn't know you had one until I checked the site for other 'news'! I hope that it doesn't hurt yours, Jeremy's, or Jamie's feelings that I also check out other L-Ville and Lex. blogs??! I have just always found "weather" extremely fascinating in that "amateurish" way, and thanks to technology,we can finally get a chance to "hone our skills"(such as they may be...?) and learn not only from you guys, but other 'weather freako's" as well! (Sorry...lol..that's what my husband calls me..:/)
Just curious...because I have always been able to "kinda/sorta" "predict" wintry weather, especcially. I would like to know what you guy's are thinking about the upcoming winter season, far as first snowfall (flakes, showers, actual measurable precip, etc) and what snow lovers like ME can expect?! I personally do not believe all those words such as "mild", "below-norm precip", etc etc...:( I might be wrong, but I believe in the late 70's (77-78...yep!), my family and I went to visit relatives in Oklahoma in July, and it was dry when we left July 2nd. and even drier ("crispy") when we returned a few days later...that winter, I managed to "escape" a couple of months' worth of those dreaded high school years due to snow, snow, SNOW!!!:) Actually...I am still holding onto my very first 2007-08 "forecast": First snowfall wlll arrive here around Nov. 16th...(give me a day either side..lol),then we will have a "roller-coaster" set-up the next couple/3 weeks, followed by another round of significant snowfalls throughout the winter...I base my little "forecasts" upon the "air"...I did it 41 years ago..I was 4 yrs old..Greensburg, KY, told my aunt on Halloween we'd have snow in 2 days...Nov. 2nd...15" in G-Burg...10" here in Bardstown...I was laughed at then, I am still laughed...ah, well!!! ;)
