Fall has finally arrived!
Climatologically, fall arrived nearly three weeks ago on September 23rd, but for all practical purposes, yesterday was the first day of fall for Kentuckiana. So now that we have our cool weather again, how long will it stick around?
For the first time since April, high temperatures remained in the lower 60’s on Wednesday. Before yesterday’s free fall though, the mercury had been soaring. In fact, the first nine days of October produced high temperatures that averaged out to better than 87 degrees. That’s a full 15 degrees above normal for this time of the year!
The extreme warmth included three record highs and twice the mercury hit 93 degrees, setting the all-time hottest temperature ever recorded during the month of October here in Louisville! All of this on the heels of the hottest August and the third hottest September on record… Wow!
So what’s next? Expect more cool weather over the next few days with the possibility of a little patchy frost early Saturday morning for rural areas. The unseasonably cool weather doesn’t look to stick around too long though. Now I don’t see 90’s returning anytime soon, but expect highs to warm back into the 70’s by the end of the weekend and into next week. Normal highs are near 70 for this time of the year.
