September 17, 2007

It's not over until it's over!

After a brief but much deserved break in our unseasonably hot weather, summer will not be leaving us until it’s good and ready.

While we are talking about temperatures returning to the high 80’s and perhaps even the low 90’s this last week of summer, it’s still falls far short from other heat waves that we’ve experienced this season. Nonetheless, temperatures will be averaging about 10 degrees warmer than normal for the balance of this summer. That’s right, summer is coming to an end officially at 5:51 Sunday morning, September 23.

Just because we say goodbye to the stifling summer of 2007, that doesn’t mean our weather will be changing anytime soon. In fact I see temperatures remaining in the mid to upper 80’s into early next week which is the first week of autumn. Of more significance is the fact that we aren’t forecasting any good chance for widespread rain for this period as well. By the time we enter the first days of fall, Louisville will be running nearly 9 inches below normal in rainfall, Lexington 8 inches below and Bowling Green a whopping 15 inches below normal.

While it’s only a guess on my part, I feel that we should again begin to see this weather pattern shift by the end of September.
