This week’s outlook and beyond.

10:04 PM Thu, Aug 02, 2007 |

Up until the very end of July, we were managing to see the end of every hot spell about the same time that they began. I believe the longest stretch of time we went with highs in the 90’s was 5 days. Then a cold front came through and cooler temperatures and lower humidity values would follow. Well, you knew it was too good to be true so here we are facing a legitimate heat wave that will likely remain with us through mid August.

This does not mean that we won’t see some momentary relief come our way from time to time. A well timed and placed thunderstorm could keep us out of the 90’s for a day but it won’t break the back of this current weather pattern and temperatures the following day will be back into the 90’s with high humidity. I won’t even rule out a weak cold front reaching us and perhaps giving us a day or two break in the high heat. But, just as our hot spells earlier this summer were short, I expect our cool spells to be even shorter at least for awhile.

As I already mentioned, I expect this kind of weather to persist through mid August and possibly into early September. Not all that unusual if you think about it, this will be typical weather conditions for the Kentucky State Fair that begins August 16 and runs through August 26.

Stay cool!

The temperature you give corresponds very closely to my thermometer that is under my shaded deck...When I move the sending unit out in the sun the temperature is much higher. Why not give the "real" temperature of where people are that work and play outdoors? For an example last Sunday it awas 99 under my deck but 135 in the sun...Now as I write this it is 102 under the deck but 127 in the sun.. What's the story?
