The heat is on…

11:44 PM Sun, Jul 29, 2007 |

The hot and dry conditions that have plagued Kentuckiana for much of this summer is about to intensify and a bona fide heat wave looks poised to strike the area this week.

Lots of lightning stuff

5:03 PM Wed, Jul 25, 2007 |

I get a bunch of stuff across my desk that I occasionally sort into piles of stuff and then sort again into categories of stuff in piles. I was thunderstruck by the amount of information I have on lightning. Needless to say, I had to do something with this data so I thought about sharing it with you. Some of this you might have already heard or read about but go ahead and read on. Sooner or later I could write something that surprises you....

Weather outlook from Tuesday evening, July 24

8:59 PM Tue, Jul 24, 2007 |

You are going to see numerous mentions of showers and storms in the forecast the next several days but that doesn’t mean that you will be getting rain each and every one of those day. In fact, I would say the odds are rather slim for you receiving rain on Wednesday and Friday of this week but are a little better on Thursday and much better on Saturday, July 28.

Your outlook.

9:35 PM Fri, Jul 13, 2007 |

Heat and humidity will increase this weekend and you’ll likely feel it the most on Sunday. Computer models have not been too excited about the chances for rain on Sunday but I believe we’ll have to keep an eye to the sky late Sunday afternoon and evening anyway. My reasoning goes back to Meteorology 101. Here’s how I see it. We’ll have temperatures in the upper 80’s, higher humidity values so the atmosphere will be at least slightly unstab...

Quieting down.

9:08 PM Tue, Jul 10, 2007 |

With the passage of the cold front today (Wednesday, July 11) there goes our best chance for rain for the next week. With this front coming through so early in the day, we won’t have to worry about a severe weather threat for Wednesday afternoon or for that matter for the next week.

Storm mid week.

8:46 PM Mon, Jul 09, 2007 |

This time of the year when we get rain it usually comes from heavy storms that may contain hail and high winds or in other words severe weather. For the next 2 days we will be looking at a chance for scattered to numerous thunderstorms throughout this area and with these storms the possibility for some heavy downpours of rain. Will they be severe?

Getting warmer!

Early storms on the 4th

7:39 PM Wed, Jul 04, 2007 |

Storms that were up over Chicago and Milwaukee late Tuesday night created an outflow boundary of cooler air that acted as a weak cold front over the Ohio Valley late Wednesday afternoon. That’s why there were more than just isolated storms that developed over the region late Wednesday.

Getting hotter!

8:11 PM Tue, Jul 03, 2007 |

Officially we are half way through 2007 but not yet half way through the summer.

Get out with friends and family for the holiday! Even with the increase in temperatures, we are still looking good for the 4th.

The 4th forecast.

9:04 PM Mon, Jul 02, 2007 |

We are usually hard pressed not to mention a shower or storm chance for the 4th due to heat, humidity and instability

The heat of summer

11:23 PM Sun, Jul 01, 2007 |

Hope you have a pool nearby to cool you off because it’s another hot and humid Independence Day for Kentuckiana. So what’s new right? Well it may be hot now, but the summer is still young. Although the longest day of the year is behind us, the hottest days are still ahead…
