No More Hot Dogs!!!!!!

10:47 PM Fri, Jul 04, 2008 |

Another July 4th and another chance for the most ridiculus, grotesque, down right stupid "sporting event" on the calendar. The Coney Island hot dog eating contest. Why do we care about this? Sure the first few years it was a novelty. But now enough is enough. In this world, where so many kids go to bed hungry and die of starvation, how can we spotlight such a wasteful display. And how about the obesity crisis in this country? Great way to show...

Favre, Stay Away!

10:43 PM Fri, Jul 04, 2008 |

Listen I have no problem with Brett Favre. He was a great quarterback. Not the best ever, but one of the best. But the love-fest with this guy is over the top. Enough already. Is he retired? Is he coming back? Who cares? It's not worthy of talking about it every day.

Favre needs to come out and set the record straight. It's not fair to the Packers who have made plans to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as the new starter. Maybe they wo...

Smoke On The Water

10:31 PM Fri, Jul 04, 2008 |

Just got back from the Madison Regatta, it was a rainy, overcast day, which actually made it quite comfortable to be out there. If you never seen these boats race, I highly recommend it. We are taking about 200 MPH on the WATER! That's crazy, I get dizzy on a paddle boat, and these guys are going 200 with waves.

I asked one of the drivers, who could make the easier transition? The hydroplane guys getting in a stock car or a NASCAR driv...

Thoughts On The NBA Draft

10:32 PM Thu, Jun 26, 2008 |

Before I get into the nuts and bolts of what I think of this years NBA Draft, I have a confession to make. I'm a huge NBA fan. I once told my wife from November through June I'll be unavailable because of the NBA season. I bleed NBA red. Now that we got that out of the way let's break down the 2008 NBA Draft.

The first three picks (Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, and OJ Mayo) were no brainers. I'm high on all three guys and I really li...

Stunning and Disappointing Finish To Belmont

10:35 AM Sun, Jun 08, 2008 |

I'll be honest. I thought Big Brown was going to win the Triple Crown. I bought the goods trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. was selling. Big Brown looked unbeatable in his previous five starts but strang things happen here in Elmont, New York as Saturday proved.

Watching the race I thought jockey Kent Desormeaux had Big Brown in a perfect place on the backstretch. It was just a matter of time until the Derby and Preakness champ made his move. Bu...

Belmont Still Has Sizzle Without Casino Drive

8:33 AM Sat, Jun 07, 2008 |

The news that Peter Pan Stakes winner Casino Drive has been scratched from Belmont 140 because of a bruised hind hoof is disappointing. But let's be honest. The story here in New York and around the horse racing world is Big Brown. Can he become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed did it back in 1978?

Casino Drive was supposed to be a formidable challenger to Big Brown, but it wasn't like this was the matchup fans were clamori...

Ramel Bradley's Debut Album

11:08 PM Mon, May 12, 2008 |

Another athlete takes a stab at putting out an album. From Kobe to Ron Artest to Walter McCarty, I guess if you play basketball, you might as well make some music.

I haven't heard all of Ramel Bradley's debut album, but I give the guy credit. He seems very passionate about it.

Here are some links to check out his music. Be aware, there is some bad language in some of the music.

More Comments on Eight Belles

4:04 PM Wed, May 07, 2008 |

Here are a couple more comments I received via email on Eight Belles. It's obviously a story that brings many strong opinions.

From senn4303@bellsouth.net
"I think people are over reacting about Eight Belles' injury. It is terrible that she was hurt, but any horse can be hurt doing anything. A horse could just slip in its stall as easily as Eight Belles was hurt. You cannot do anything with a horse that does not threaten its l...

Derby Observations

3:59 PM Tue, May 06, 2008 |

With Kentucky Derby 134 now in the rear view mirror I thought I'd list the things I'll remember about the Derby festivities.

1. Great Race Has Tragic Ending
While Big Brown triumphed to the win, Eight Belles finished an impressive second. But before she could even enjoy her magical run in front of more than 150,000 fans she broke down, breaking her two front ankles. She had to be euthanized on the spot. That's wh...

Looking Back at the Kentucky Derby

10:55 PM Sun, May 04, 2008 |

For those of us standing trackside, near the entrance to the paddock, there was no way to see what happened near the backstrech. The fabulous filly, Eight Belles down on the ground with two broken ankles. Word quickly spread, and we abandoned our mission of talking with some of the Derby jockeys and trainers, and headed for the backside.

When I got to barn #37, you could feel the somber mood in the air. Those involved with Eight...

Terrell Owens Set To Do Derby

6:23 PM Thu, Apr 24, 2008 |

Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Terrell Owens will descend on the Ville next week for the Kentucky Derby and several of the star studded parties held around town. Owens' trip to the River City is expected to start Thursday with an appearance at J-Dub's annual Bowl for the Roses charity event at Lucky Strike at 4th Street Live. That's just the tip of the iceberg for the man who put Sharpie on the map. He plans to make it a full weekend in Lou...

Enough With The Criticism Of Clark and Caracter

10:05 PM Tue, Apr 15, 2008 |

It seems like everyone with an opinion about Earl Clark's and Derrick Caracter's decisions to turn pro feels the need to voice it. At last check, the UofL sophomores were foregoing the rest of school to make themselves available for the NBA Draft. But based on all the criticism they've been receiving, you would think the two had decided to go commit a crime or something. All you hear is how they are both -- Caracter more so than Clark -- makin...

Cards Season Comes To An End 83-73

11:05 PM Sat, Mar 29, 2008 |

There's a reason why some people think North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough should be the national player of the year. He seems to make all the big play at all the right times. When Louisville had tied the game at 59 UNC went to Hansbrough. He put them on his back scoring 11 points in a 10 minute span. He has 28 for the game. Even when you think he's way too far out to make a shot, he somehow gets it done. He's been the difference tonight. Louisv...

Tight Game In The House Of The Bobcats

10:44 PM Sat, Mar 29, 2008 |

With 5:36 left to play the Cards trail UNC 64-68. After beind down 12 at the half the Cards have stormed back. Earl Clark's free throw with 10:21 left tied the game at 59. But UNC has gone to Junior all american Tyler Hansbrough. He has seven points in the last five minutes and 24 for the game to give the Tarheels the lead.

Cards Rallying Behind Smith

10:19 PM Sat, Mar 29, 2008 |

With 11:13 left to play Louisville has cut the Tarheel lead to 55-59. They had closed to within one on a Jerry Smith three pointer with 11:44 left to play. Smith has been off the hook scoring 17 points on 7-10 shooting. He's 3-5 from three ball range.

Another key has been offensive rebounding. The Cards are now getting after it on the glass and creating second chance opportunities. They have 10 offensive rebounds to Carolina's 14.

Carolina Pounding The Cards On The Boards

9:41 PM Sat, Mar 29, 2008 |

With 3:53 left to play in the first half North Carolina leads Louisville 31-24. The Tarheels have been quicker to the ball and more aggressive on the glass. They're outrebounding the Cards 15-7, and 8-3 on the offensive glass. Carolina has 12 second chance points while the Cards have only 5. Louisville is shooting the ball at a respectable rate (52.6%) but so are the Tarheels (53.8%).

Tarheels Lead 44-32 At The Half

9:41 PM Sat, Mar 29, 2008 |

The North Carolina Tarheels are running the Cardinals out of the gym. Even on made baskets the Tarheels are pushing it up the floor for easy scores. They have 12 fastbreak points to Louisville's six. And they lead 12-5 in second chance points. The numbers tell the story of the game. Carolina is shooting better than 58% and they hold the rebounding edge 18-11. Those numbers spell DOOM if you're the Cardinals.

Turnovers also plaguing the...

Tarheels Take Early Lead

9:12 PM Sat, Mar 29, 2008 |

With 11:43 left to go in the first half the Tarheels lead the Cards 17-12. Norrth Carolina has been crisp on offense and are owning the boards. They already have 6 offensive rebounds, that's more than Louisville has total. Also the Cards offense seems to be bottled up by the Tarheels defense. If the offensive execution and rebounding does not improve it could be a long night for the Cardinals.

Bobcats Arena Is Nuts

8:53 PM Sat, Mar 29, 2008 |

Less than 10 minutes before the Cards and Tarheels tip off the crowd has worked itself into a frenzy. This game has all the drama. Two legendary coaches in Roy Williams and Rick Pitino going head to head. Two of the hottest teams in the tournament squaring off. A Final Four trip on the line. It really doesn't get much bigger than this. There seems to be a large contingent of UofL fans who bought tickets from Tennessee fans the other night. The...

Cards 3:00 Away From Elite Eight

12:10 AM Fri, Mar 28, 2008 |

With 3:00 left to play Louisville leads Tennessee 71-57. Terrence Williams and Earl Clark have fueled the Cards second half run. Clark has 15 and Williams has had an all around good game with 12 points, 8 rebounds and two assists.
