Kentucky's 85-80 loss to Mississippi on Saturday isn't the end of the world but it does raise some concerns about the way the Cats are built. First off give Andy Kennedy and the Rebels tons of credit. They devised an excellent game plan to stop Jodie Meeks. Meeks entered the game as one of the top five scorers in the country. But he was only 4-15 from the field for 21 points. Here are some things I noticed watching the game.

After two postponements the Girls LIT Basketball Tournament has been canceled. I just received a call from Joyce Seymour, Tournament Director, and she tells me this is the first time she can remember the entire tournament being canceled. It was supposed to begin on Tuesday but was postponed twice before the final decision to cancel was made this afternoon. On Tuesday, January 13 the NFL got a little less classy.

Louisville football coach Steve Kragthorpe is hoping junior safety Latarrius Thomas changes his mind about transferring. In a statement given to me coach Kragthorpe says "We have attempted to contact Latarrius again to discuss his options. We haven't closed the door on his career at UofL."

The Louisville basketball team's trip to Tampa, FL to take on the South Florida Bulls is off to a rocky start. The Cards plane which departed Louisville Tuesday afternoon, made an emergency landing shortly after take-off. The initial thought was one of the engines had caught fire because the engine indicator signal came on. After further inspection crews on the ground could find no evidence of the fire.

Brandon Simmons 28 yard touchdown run wih 14:14 to go in the 2nd quarter put the Pirates up 10-zero in the Liberty Bowl. The Cats defense came out fired up on the first possession holding East Carolina to a three and out.
UK's offense has looked horrendous. The only bright light is Tony Dixon who seems like he has come to play. He had seven carries for 39 yards in the first quarter.
