August 2008 ArchivesYes, Louisville's only points came on a SAFETY!!! Was Louisville's offense really that bad, or is the Kentucky defense that good?? No doubt the Cats have a lot of playmakers on defense this year. I thought they'd be better, but they were beasts on Sunday afternoon. Pryor, Lindley, Kelley...I'm anxious to see how this group does in the SEC. But what happened to Hunter Cantwell?? He looked like the QB who had never made a start before. ... After a month of studying the depth charts, looking at the film, and listening to the players and coaches I'm totally convinced Louisville will edge rival Kentucky in the battle for the Governor's Cup. I've heard all the reasons why the Cards can't win: they have no depth, their receiving corp is week, the defense is suspect, Steve Kragthorpe is not a good coach, the Cats "D" is too tough. Whatever. I'm here to tell you Louisville will... How will the Cats do this season? Just read ahead... So many new faces on both sides. I don't feel totally confident in my selection. But here it is.. On offense, obviously you have to give a major QB edge to UofL. Hunter Cantwell has shown he can get it done. He's already gone through the jitters of his first few starts. Some think he has more pro potential than Brian Brohm. Mike Hartline may very well... The Jeffersonville/ George Rogers Clark little league team cannot be accused of not having any heart. Facing near insurmountable odds of advancing out of pool play they gave it their all falling just short, losing to Mill Creek, WA 3-2 in 7 innings. The loss ends a great year for Jeff. Despite going 0-3 in their trip to the Little League World Series the players, coaches and families tell me they still had a blast. They're still one of the top... Kenny is recovering from the eye injury that forced him to withdraw from the PGA Championship. He was in great spirits as he looks forward to the Ryder Cup. Perry will be in demand when he gets to Louisville. That's why I wanted the chance to interview before the Ryder Cup madness begins. There were also reporters from USA Today and Golf Weekly Magazine there. As... The Indiana High School football season is still more than a week and a half away but some Floyd Central football players really put on a show Tuesday night. It's called the Turkey Bowl and more than a hundred girls took the Floyd Central field for a game of flag football. It's an annual tradition that pits the juniors versus the seniors. At first I thought it wouldn't be that exciting. The girls won't play that hard. There won't be any real h... How about those kids from Jeffersonville! I was there for their return home Sunday afternoon after winning the Great Lakes Regional. It's hard to tell who's happier, the kids or the parents. But man, it's gotta get expensive for the famlies. First they traveled to Chicago, then the regional in Indianapolis. Next stop, Williamsport, PA. I hope they have forgiving bosses who give them the time off they need. Watching the kids play on ESPN, they ... Kenny Perry has been criticized all season long for not playing in a major. Then the one major he does play in, he has to withdraw because of an eye injury. Perry tried to play through a scratched cornea but on Thursday night he withdrew from the PGA Championship. Earlier in the week doctors told him not to wear contacts for at least seven days and try to let it heal. But instead of wearing glasses he ignored that advice and teed it up on Thur... On a day when UK football coach Rich Brooks is supposed to be excited about the start of fall practice he delivers the shocking news that quarterback Curtis Pulley has been kicked off the team for violating team rules. After being arrested twice over a two month period (once for marijuana possession, the second for speeding and driving on a suspended license) Pulley deserved to be punished. But kicking him off the team? That's an extreme step ... Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks says quarterback Curtis Pulley will be disciplined internally, after he was arrested twice in the last two months. Sorry to break the news to coach, but that's not good enough.
