They scored two points???

10:46 PM Sun, Aug 31, 2008 |

Yes, Louisville's only points came on a SAFETY!!! Was Louisville's offense really that bad, or is the Kentucky defense that good?? No doubt the Cats have a lot of playmakers on defense this year. I thought they'd be better, but they were beasts on Sunday afternoon. Pryor, Lindley, Kelley...I'm anxious to see how this group does in the SEC.

But what happened to Hunter Cantwell?? He looked like the QB who had never made a start before. ...

Here's Why The Cards Will Win

8:48 PM Sat, Aug 30, 2008 |

After a month of studying the depth charts, looking at the film, and listening to the players and coaches I'm totally convinced Louisville will edge rival Kentucky in the battle for the Governor's Cup.

I've heard all the reasons why the Cards can't win: they have no depth, their receiving corp is week, the defense is suspect, Steve Kragthorpe is not a good coach, the Cats "D" is too tough. Whatever. I'm here to tell you Louisville will...

Here's the way Louisville's season will go..mark it down!

Louisville 28, Kentucky 27
Doug Beaumont scores his 2nd touchdown in the 4th quarter to give UofL the win. Coach K takes a big sigh of relief.

Louisville 36, Tennessee Tech 13
Victor Anderson has his first hundred yard rushing game.

Louisville 29, Kansas State 17
3-0 start, Kragthorpe hailed as a genius.

UConn 38, UofL 31
4-0 start...

And the Winner Is....

3:51 PM Fri, Aug 29, 2008 |

It's usually tough to call the UofL/UK game, especially since it's the season opener. So many new faces on both sides. I don't feel totally confident in my selection. But here it is..

On offense, obviously you have to give a major QB edge to UofL. Hunter Cantwell has shown he can get it done. He's already gone through the jitters of his first few starts. Some think he has more pro potential than Brian Brohm. Mike Hartline may very well...

UofL/UK Gameday is near

4:02 PM Fri, Aug 22, 2008 |

With the annual UofL vs UK football game coming up in about a week, the debates can begin over many things.

Who will win? Who needs the win more? How will the game look; good football or bad football? Which website will re-surface,FireKragthorpe or FireBrooks?

I, for one, am honestly excited about this game. Both teams have a number of "unknowns", which could affect the game in a huge way.

I believe the Cards are in a ...

Jeff/GRC Little Leaguers Season Comes To An End

7:34 PM Tue, Aug 19, 2008 |

The Jeffersonville/ George Rogers Clark little league team cannot be accused of not having any heart. Facing near insurmountable odds of advancing out of pool play they gave it their all falling just short, losing to Mill Creek, WA 3-2 in 7 innings. The loss ends a great year for Jeff. Despite going 0-3 in their trip to the Little League World Series the players, coaches and families tell me they still had a blast. They're still one of the top...

Must Win Game For Jeff/GRC

1:08 PM Tue, Aug 19, 2008 |

A lot of times we in the media tend to throw the phrase "must win" around a lot. Sometimes even when it's not really a must win for a team. But in the case of the Jeff/GRC little league team, they must win today's game against Mill Creek, WA to have any chance of moving on past pool play. With a Jeff win and a Maryland loss tonight there would be three teams tied at 1-2 for second place in Pool A. To sort it all out a tiebreaker system based o...

Jeff/GRC Little Leaguers Still Alive

3:21 PM Mon, Aug 18, 2008 |

Despite losing their first two games in the Little League World Series the Jeffersonville/ George Rogers Clark team can still advance out of pool play. The Jeff squad can thanks Mill Creek, WA for beating Hagerstown, MD 15-5 on Monday. That means with a Jeff win Tuesday and a Maryland loss three teams would be tied at 1-2 for second place in Pool A. The tiebreaker is runs allowed divided by number of innings on defense. Jeff is sitting pretty ...

Hanging With Kenny Perry

8:57 PM Sat, Aug 16, 2008 |

I spent the afternoon at Kenny Perry's golf course down in Franklin on Wednesday. Kenny is recovering from the eye injury that forced him to withdraw from the PGA Championship. He was in great spirits as he looks forward to the Ryder Cup. Perry will be in demand when he gets to Louisville. That's why I wanted the chance to interview before the Ryder Cup madness begins. There were also reporters from USA Today and Golf Weekly Magazine there. As...

Turkey Bowl Fun

11:01 PM Tue, Aug 12, 2008 |

The Indiana High School football season is still more than a week and a half away but some Floyd Central football players really put on a show Tuesday night. It's called the Turkey Bowl and more than a hundred girls took the Floyd Central field for a game of flag football. It's an annual tradition that pits the juniors versus the seniors. At first I thought it wouldn't be that exciting. The girls won't play that hard. There won't be any real h...

Williamsport Bound!

12:40 AM Mon, Aug 11, 2008 |

How about those kids from Jeffersonville! I was there for their return home Sunday afternoon after winning the Great Lakes Regional. It's hard to tell who's happier, the kids or the parents. But man, it's gotta get expensive for the famlies. First they traveled to Chicago, then the regional in Indianapolis. Next stop, Williamsport, PA. I hope they have forgiving bosses who give them the time off they need. Watching the kids play on ESPN, they ...

Tough Break For Kenny Perry

10:54 PM Thu, Aug 07, 2008 |

Kenny Perry has been criticized all season long for not playing in a major. Then the one major he does play in, he has to withdraw because of an eye injury. Perry tried to play through a scratched cornea but on Thursday night he withdrew from the PGA Championship. Earlier in the week doctors told him not to wear contacts for at least seven days and try to let it heal. But instead of wearing glasses he ignored that advice and teed it up on Thur...

Brooks Takes Strong Stand

5:26 PM Tue, Aug 05, 2008 |

On a day when UK football coach Rich Brooks is supposed to be excited about the start of fall practice he delivers the shocking news that quarterback Curtis Pulley has been kicked off the team for violating team rules. After being arrested twice over a two month period (once for marijuana possession, the second for speeding and driving on a suspended license) Pulley deserved to be punished. But kicking him off the team? That's an extreme step ...

Pulley Should Be Suspended

10:35 PM Sat, Aug 02, 2008 |

Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks says quarterback Curtis Pulley will be disciplined internally, after he was arrested twice in the last two months. Sorry to break the news to coach, but that's not good enough. After the media and some fans have been critical in Steve Kragthorpe's handling of UofL's problems, it's time for Brooks to answer some tough questions.

Let me break down the Pulley situation for you. Back in June has was arre...

Slugger Field Transformed

5:46 PM Sat, Aug 02, 2008 |

If you didn't spend the big bucks to go see the Dave Matthews Band concert at Slugger Field, I thought I'd show what it looked like. Slugger Field doesn't host a ton of concerts and I'm still not sure if it's really the best venue. The stage was set up in center field with most of the outfield open for fans with general admission tickets. No chairs allowed, so it was either stand up or bring a blanket.
