Living in Title Town(s)

10:26 PM Mon, Jul 07, 2008 |

ESPN is filling some airtime this summer with a "competition" trying to determine which USA city is Titletown http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/titletown/index
Segements like this one don't do much for me. I mean there's obviously no true way to name a winner. But I did notice that I've actually lived (and covered sports) in four of the final sixteen cities. Gainesville, Knoxville, Chicago and now Louisville. All four cities have things that make them great sports towns.

Gainesville is a great college town where everything revolves around the Gators. Florida has two National Titles in football, two in basketball, 3 Heisman winners, and loads of championships in all kinds of sports.

Knoxville has Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols, and crazy football fans with the 2nd biggest football stadium in the country.

Chicago has Michael Jordan and his 6 NBA titles, the '85 Bears, and the White Sox World Series win from a few years back.

And that brings us to the 'Ville. Ali, UofL Hoops, The Kentucky Derby. Some pretty good stuff too.

I can't pick a winner out of the four cities I've lived in, let alone out of the sixteen finalists.
