I'll be honest. I thought Big Brown was going to win the Triple Crown. I bought the goods trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. was selling. Big Brown looked unbeatable in his previous five starts but strang things happen here in Elmont, New York as Saturday proved. Watching the race I thought jockey Kent Desormeaux had Big Brown in a perfect place on the backstretch. It was just a matter of time until the Derby and Preakness champ made his move. But as they turned for home I noticed horse after horse go by, but no Big Brown. Then I see Desormeaux easing him up and realize history was not going to be made. THere would be no Triple Crown winner this year. The more than 100,000 people who crammed into Belmont Park were also stunned. A hush fell over the crowd when people realized what happened. Desormeaux says he's not sure what caused Big Brown to run such a poor race. Maybe it was the track, or the fact he lost a shoe. Either way we're reminded of how unpredictable this business is. Who would have thought Nick Zito's Da' Tara, a 38-1 long-shot, would go wire to wire. Nothing is a guarantee. 1 CommentsLeave a comment |

Can we please get past the Big Brown defeat and get on with the real racing sports story of the week.......the Nationwide Series race at Kentucky Speedway. I cannot understand why Big Brown is the lead-in sports story on the 6:00 news when NASCAR is coming to Kentucky. There was not even one mention of the upcoming race. Louisville television has never given NASCAR racing at Kentucky Speedway the attention it deserves but I bet it changes when Bruton Smith brings a Cup race to Sparta!
