T-Will "swims" against the current

3:54 PM Thu, Apr 10, 2008 |

If Terrence Williams would have jumped to the NBA Draft today he would've been just another name added to a list. That list being underclassmen who've declared draft eligible. That's a list that seems to be longer than the list of graduating players who are eligible. But, T-Will didn't jump. Instead, he did what has become a rarity in college basketball. Williams will be coming back to "The Ville" for his senior season.

Why not go? His athleticism certainly makes him an intriguing prospect. When he makes up his mind to take the ball to the rim, he very rarely is stopped. Why not go?

According to T-Will, "There are too many sharks in the draft this year. Next year there will be fish and seaweed. Hopefully I can be a shark next year."

Coach Pitino has voiced his opinion on the situation. He made it clear that playing another year for the Cards would make Williams a shark. I couldn't agree more.

In my opinion, Williams needs to work on one major thing to make him a high pick. That thing is his jump shot. To say that his shooting is "streaky" or "spotty" would be putting it nicely. T-Will's shooting is a horrific basketball version of the Jekyll and Hyde story. You never know what's going to show up! How can it be fixed? Another summer spent in the YUM Center working hard, and that's what he does best.

Williams' work ethic is one that every athlete should aspire to have. I have heard coach Pitino say that he gets upset if he has to come out during practice! He loves the game, and that is refreshing. He has fun playing the game, that is something that's lost in today's NCAA.

So, here's hoping that more players look at T-Will as a model of doing it the right way. Not getting into trouble; playing at 110% for every game and every practice drill; playing the game with a smile on his face; listening to his coach and following his advice.

T-Will, you certainly have made the right choice. If I had a child playing basketball, I would want you to be his role model. I want to thank you for representing our city and our team with enthusiasm. Maybe this should be a forewarning to all of those "schools of fish" swimming around in the Big East waters...there's a shark coming and he's wearing #1.
